Red Light near Refrierator

We have a 2013 Bambi International. There is a red light switch on the wall to the left of the front door that has something to do with the refrigerator. When it's on, the fan runs even if the fridge is turned off. Does it need to stay on all the time? What does it do specifically if the fridge is off? Thanks.

The switch is for the fridge fan, and helps the fridge get colder than without it.

It does not need to stay on all the time. If your refrigerator is off, there is no need to keep the fan on.

The switch is for times when you would like to silence the fan, such as when sleeping!

A thermometer is helpful to monitor your refrigerator's temperature. We especially like the AcuRite Refrigerator/Freezer Wireless Digital Thermometer.

Additional info: Cool... and wireless

If the fridge is not on there is no reason to have the fan on.

Your owner's manual should give you the basics.

PS: In case you are wondering... the fan is not inside the fridge ... it's located behind the actual fridge....in the fridge compartment accessible from the outside... They get noisy over time, but can be easily replaced with a better/quieter fan (this is discussed quite a bit here on the Forums...). We usually turn ours off at night.

Am I missing something or misreading this? If the fan switch is on with current running thru it to the thermostat, yet the refer is off and I would think would be cold (the fins and location of the thermostat...assuming there is one), is there a failure of the thermostat and seeding power to the fan.

Thanks, this is a great product, not always having to open the door to check the temp.

Thx

The fan doesn't have anything to do directly with the running/operations of the fridge...it's an "assist" to move warm air out of the compartment behind the fridge so that the fridge can operate more efficiently. This switch is particular to 19'ers...not sure if any of the newer models have a manual switch. Some models have exterior fans that cannot be disabled by a manual switch (like the 23's I know). Some folks with this situation have installed so they can turn the fan off because it can be noisy. (When the fridge it turned off there is no reason to have the switch turned on. If the switch is on and the fridge is off, high ambient temps enough to trip the thermostat to make it run.)

Our 2014 FC20 also has the manual switch for the cooling fan, which many are replacing with a quieter computer fan, as mentioned before, and as discussed on other threads.

FYI and FWIW
