Really a full-size bed

When we purchased our 1972 Overlander the original owner had unconverted the glide bed to permanently being out. We like the idea, measured and found that a "real" full mattress could be dropped in and all the drawers and closets still opened/closed if done carefully. The we reinforced the frame. It is wonderful. A real full size bed. It is so much more comfortable and extra little bit of width is a real plus.

Location of full size bed

Where is the bed located? forward or in the middle?

I am currently converting our forward Goucho into a true full size bed but here is the good part.........

Mine will actually still work as a Gaucho, what I mean is that it will still convert into a couch just as the original did.

I have put a lot of thought into this project and I was wondering if all gouchos are created equal?

My existing bed is a three piece cushion. The couch is a bifold and there is a smaller cushion that fits against the forward bulkhead.
This setup is not quite a full size mattress, (10 inches shy of a full mattress, 44 inches wide).

Also the divisions, ( gaps as she says ), in the mattress drives my wife nuts, so, I am replacing the three pieces with a single solid mattress. I had the matress custom cut. I had to alter the slides to accomodate the larger mattress. The bed will extend clear to the forward edge of the door. A king size bed by comparison.

I will send photos upon completion.
