What I was wondering is if there is enough length to allow a squaring off at the head in some way, to make it more like a headboard? (Sitting here without a ruler, or I would go measure!)

I wish we had given more consideration to twin v. queen.
Something like these might work.

Thanks so much for the information, Evan! You precisely answered my questions. And you even confirmed in another post my thoughts about buying 6" foam for the beds. I hope you had a good last trip. We're in Florida, so our camping season is just beginning, but the project may delay any trips for now. Again, thanks! Carol

I hope you are still following this, even though I am several months late to the party. This is an incredible job! We are looking for our first AS and are pretty sure we want the twins, but they seem to be in short supply in the 25FB models at this time. I think I can do this. Buying a queen version and converting if necessary would let us be sure about which we prefer.

I have also been reading about problems with window leaks and sub-floor rot. I noticed that you talked about installing window drains. I wonder if you could elaborate a little on the what/why/how of doing that, as it seems the leaks are a pretty common problem.

Thanks!

Based upon a bad night's sleep at the selling dealership lot, we replaced the OEM 7" mattress in our 2013 25FB International Serenity before our first trip with an 8" mattress from Rocky Mountain Mattress:

The Sunrise? 8" Memory Foam Mattress with Bayer Technology

The 8" mattress filled out the Airstream Factory 600 thread count sheets so they were not loose. We slept so well on this mattress that we ordered two in twin sizes for the new trailer.

Note a higher/thicker mattress could have issues by being higher than the bedside tables or openings in the cabinets beside the queen beds in 31' models.

Somewhere I saw where someone had made a template of the curve when cutting plywood for the twin bed in the conversion. I have been searching and cannot find that thread. Any help?
Now you know how I am spending the winter months and what I am getting new for my Airstream.

See post #38 above for the mattress drawings.

Hi there,

Sorry to have missed your posting.

I documented the window drain conversion here:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f456...ls-107690.html

As per a few suggestions from other posters there could be simpler fixes than what I did. My modification seems to be working just fine but it was definitely more complicated than just drilling out the corners.

Looking at the configuration of your unit with fewer windows in the forward BR, makes me think that although the wrap around windows of our version seem desirable, it's actually better to have less glass in the sleeping area.

Nicely done.

Enjoy your new camping season!

Very nice work, Coaster!

My only suggestion would be, to go back and take better pictures. Those posted (of the finished work) just don't do your great work justice!!!!
