Rivet Bunks over Twins

I will take some pics as I have never heard of or seen any others mentioned anywhere. These appear to be factory. They are essentially canvas cots on big square aluminum tubing and they fold in half the long way with a locking pin when opened. The back corners hook into a large alu flat hook mounted on the wall and the front corners have slots that take steel braided cable with ball ends. These lines attach to the ceiling into round fittings with slots in them to accept the ball on the end of the cable. Totally elegant. My daughters are 100 lbs each and that's their beds. When traveling, we take them down, fold them longways and then they slide into wide sheet metal brackets screwed to the wall. Anyone ever seen other factory bunks?

What you have are usually referred to as hammock bunks. They were available on many Airstream as well as Argosy coaches - - seemingly from the 1950s through the 1970s (possibly a little before or a little later). My first introduction to camping was in my '64 Overlander when it was new and I was five years old and slept in one of its hammock bunks - - unfortunately the bunks themselves dissappeared between the second owner and myself (fourth owner). I can remember being told back in the '60s that the hammock bunks had a maximum capacity of 90 pounds as they were installed in what is now my '64 Overlander.

During the 1950s and at least into the 1960s cabinet bunks were offered as a "special order" option on most coaches. These were more permanent arrangements built-in to the cabinetry in the bedroom area (I have seen these in both Trade Wind and Overlanders).

Wow. Don't look especially sturdy, but surely 90 lbs. is a safe rating. Won't be throwing my 280 pound butt up there.

A guy in the local wally club, also in NewEngland, has a mid-70's Argosy with those bunks. He said I could have 'em.

The mounts are different than what was originally installed in my AS. I saw one mounted in a 60's vintage trailer at a rally last year, and realized that there must have been one in mine at one time, too. There is a circular pattern of holes in my ceiling in the same spots, filled in w/ pop-rivets. I had wondered what those were. I'm hoping that the rectangular mounts pictured will work. It'll be perfect for when my boy gets a little older. For now, I've removed one of the mattresses, and we put his playpen up on the platform. fits perfectly. but I have to sleep on the pull-out gaucho up front.

I have two aluminum poles that attach to the underside of the bunk. The bunk has a frame of aluminum all around the perimeter of it it will hold some weight with the poles installed ...

OK! we want to have a bunk over the "couch" in our 22' minuet. Would the poles or the hangers work better. the kids are 50lbs. or less. WHERE can I get them? how do the poles attach? Would they be easier to have manufactured is necessary? What other options might work for the hanging structure? THANKS beb
