Parting out interior of 1971 31' trailer

I'm curious what the market is like for original parts. I am about to purchase a 1971 gut-job that has a few leaks and electrical problems. My plan is to strip it right down to the skeleton, and re plumb and wire it for off-grid living. My concern is that much of what I'm gutting will be perfectly use able to someone else, and on my single-mom budget, I'd like to know what parts are re-sellable, and recycle able. This could help fund my composting toilet and solar panels. I'll try to post a picture of the floor plan for a better idea.

What kind of trailer is it? I know that shipping costs from Canada have prevented me from buying any parts from Canada. However, the Canadian customers will love it!

I don't think there is much of a market for 44 year old interiors. I could be wrong of course but if it is too old for your use, probably it is too old for others to use. And 44 year old appliances, sinks, toilets and countertops, cabinets and so on are not in huge demand. Shipping costs can also be killers.

Sure, there may be a specific part or piece that someone wants, but I doubt that it would justify much money.

Please be careful that you don't get in over your head. Lots of times people gut a trailer and find that the actual work of re building the interior, especially with curved tops and sides, is far more than they expected. Then their fine sounding project gets bogged down and halts and their gutted trailer is worth even less than they paid for it in the first place.

This is not discouragement, but please think carefully about your skills, abilities, and time frame, as well as $$ commitment prior to starting on a gut and re build project.

Oops. It's a 31' sovereign, model 131ds.
it has a rear bath and the double beds. For people trying to restore their units to original condition, there's gonna be a lot of exciting things to pass on.

I also live only 1 hour from the border, and often use Ship Happens to ship and receive stuff, so if it's a matter of shipping costs, I would accommodate to know that minimal stuff is going into a landfill unnecessarily.

This is my second airstream project. I am currently living on the Squamish waterfront in a 26' 1976 Argosy with a center bath and double vista windows. It too was a bit of a gut job once the plumbing and electrical started to give trouble. I adore it, but it's a touch small for me and my daughter, and I have aspirations of rewiring and re plumbing this new trailer into a simple little sustainable eco-bubble, then selling my argosy.

You might need the original parts for templates. All those curves can be hard to duplicate.

Maybe follow a few auctions on eBay, and see what folks are willing to pay? I wound up giving away some parts from mine, and hauling the rest to the dump. This is old, brittle, stuff; difficult to remove. I'm glad I was able to help out a few folks with some parts, but I regretted having to spend precious remodeling time carefully removing everything, packing it into boxes, and shipping it off. Had I received a princely sum for the parts, I might have a different attitude!

Good luck on your project, and start collecting large pieces of cardboard for templates!

Need some of your parts

My wife and I have a 71 excella 500 31' and am in need of some interior parts. Looking for entire upper cabinet over stove/sink (curb side)including exhaust fan if possible. We live in the Portland/Vancouver area and would make the drive say halfway for the right price 👍 we are the second owners of our dream can and I'm a contractor of 35 years in the area. Love working on our trailer but it's not for the faint of heart. Lots of special tools required and an GOOD working knowledge of Airstreams and RV's! Highly interested

Many of the overhead cabinets, gaucho bed and the tables are definitely parts that are desired. You can't buy those new or aftermarket!!

ps. If life gets to riveting, put your AS in the wind!

I'm in need of tambour doors, or at least the handles. The PO threw them all away when they broke.

Also looking for the interior plastic AC cover for an original Armstrong.
