Pantry Wire Baskets

The slide out pantry in our trailer is great.

Trouble is, they like to jump out of their hooking mechanisms, and play general havoc with the food they're supposed to be holding.

My first thought was to use "zip ties" to hold them in place. Then I found out, this little operation takes two hands. In a tight place like the pantry, getting two hands in to tie the baskets down is impossible (at least for my fat hands).

My next thought was to remove the sliding pantry mechanism and attack it from that way, but I'll be darned if I know how to get the thing out.

Has anyone had similar opportunities present themselves, and if so, how did you solve the puzzle? How did you remove the sliding pantry shelf system?

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've only once had one of the shelves come loose - I think it was overloaded in the first place. The pantry isn't where I store really heavy stuff like canned goods or jars of spaghetti, I use the shelves under the refrigerator and oven for that. I've also noticed everything runs smoother since I went to 16 inch wheels and added centramatics.

My shelves wedge into the supports pretty tightly. If yours are loose, you might try bending the prongs that hold the shelves ever so slightly inward, or using something like a toothpick or a scrap of that non sliding shelf liner between the connecting parts to tighten up the connection.

Paula, I hear you on the heavy stuff. We've since added two baskets (and there's room, believe it or not).

For ours, the slightest little bump in the road will dislodge the stuff. And maybe your suggestion of crimping the attachment points will do the trick.

Anyone else out there with suggestions?

Where did you get the extra baskets from?

I ordered my extra baskets from Inland RV. They are not cheap - about $28. But, i am not familiar if your pantry is the same in my 30' FC. Ordered two and the tighter spacing prevents items from jumping out.
