Painting Wood Laminate

I have a 1975 International Sov. that has real oak laminate in it and I want to stain it or put polyuathane on it. Anybody out there tackled this before, sure could use some advise. What I'm trying to accomplish is a satin finish, currently the walls are dull and uninteresting.

Here's a recent thread that may be helpful, John...it's about painting the laminate, but it may have good info for what you want to do...

The other link seems to focus on the plastic fake wood. Is this real wood paneling? If so you should be able to stain and Urathane it no problem.

I was conserned that the real wood laminate might seperate from the backing if it were to soak through. I'm thinking the polyurathane may be the best route. thanks for the help
