Painting interior- newbie

Painting inside is about to commence!
I'm concerned with 2 things:

1. The roll up storage bins in the front/back- what do I need to know? Will they still roll ok after painting? I only plan to paint the front and back ones (they are discolored and faded), leaving the wood toned in the kitchen and closet.

2. The skylights? They are already not that easy to open. I'm worried that painting will make them worse.
And is there anything to do to "lube" them up?

Thanks for any tips and how-to's!
