Overlander Twin

Hi, I'm new here. We just bought our first Airstream - less than a week ago 😁. It's a 1965 Overlander Twin!! We are going to do as much as we can to get this beautiful guy "Harvey" on the road again. Does anyone know what size mattresses I need for the two twin beds? Should I have them custom made? Is there a standard size matress that will fit?

There is a standard one that fits. You want to look for a sleeper sofa mattress. These are perfect sized: Check the measurements though as sometimes descriptions change on Amazon. It's a tiny bit shorter than the twin area, but that's helpful as you have to lift the bed to get to things under, and you need to make up the bed and roll the comforter under. I think they're perfect sized.

Congrats on your trailer. I have a 64 overlander, and did everything to mine.

Greetings Harvey 5. Congratulations on your 65 Overlander twin. The 65 is a good year as it is the last of the flat glass trailers, and the Overlander is a very popular model. My 66 Trade Wind (one size smaller than the Overlander) has Corning curved glass windows, an Airstream idea that didn't stick. A lot of people like the 60s Airstreams for their older vintage body and all wood interiors. The body style changed in 69.

My twin bed frames may be the same size as yours. Mine are 75 long and 34 wide. Thanks to robwok for the link to a retail mattress that might work. There are several sources of RV mattresses available on the internet. New mattresses did not fit the budget this year, so I put in two standard twin size mattresses at 75 by 39 that we had in the basement. Too big, but comfortable. We wanted to use the trailer so they are in it for now.

You will have to tell us all about your 50 year old Overlander and post some pictures. I'll just bet it has some needs you will want to address.

There's no need to do custom as they are rv bunk mattresses ( as opposed to twin mattresses). You may want to do custom if you are picky about the quality tho....

custom-made mattress

Feeling mighty civilized! I had a custom made, high quality, medium density foam mattress made in Los Angeles -- love it! I sleep in my little trailer for three months camping in the Pacific Northwest in the spring/summer season.

I gave them a template (there's a curve) and it's narrower than a standard twin. They do beautiful work. Steve Hernandez told me they've been doing custom RV beds for many years. Very pleased with the mattress. Now my wife is going to want on her side...

We have a rear twins, which mean the center bathroom shifts the hallway toward the kitchen side. Our plan is to match the hallway space and go with one original width - 34" and one twin width - 39".

Amazon is a good place to research choices.

Thank you for the mattress link.

Your vintage trailer looks great inside, nice cabinetry.
