outside shower

hello all..

long time since posting, but back working on the airstream.....

question...we are looking at puting the shower on the outside of the trailer...if we used biodegradable soaps to wash this should be safe...no...

we would fabricate a curtian system to cover the wheelchair and able-bodied people also....

what issues would arise..

trying to see all issues before attacking them..

I am not against outside showers, not at all.

But what kind of soap would not be biodegradable?

Even though they all are, it does not follow that it is acceptable everywhere to discharge gray water on the ground by the trailer.

The only other suggestion I can make is to try wetting yourself down outside in the weather you expect to be using the shower. Some people find the chilling caused by being wet in breezy weather not to their taste. Only you can tell for yourself.

We have also thought of creating an outside shower, something really cool with copper pipe that could be attached to the back once parked. This is important when you have a sandy dog and husband at the beach. Some friends of ours have one on their newer non-A/S trailer. She said she couldn't live without it; she has 2 boys. Bobechs is right though about the grey water..some places may not appreciate it, but the grass would. Dr. Bonner soap (peppermint) is a great camp soap, and it is also fun reading the label. You could tryout one of those Solar showers (Black bag) that you hang in the sun to warm. A friend of ours who has a sail boat really likes theirs.

I would take along a shower curtain or something to run the wheelchair onto while you wipe all the mud off the wheels.

Be sure the shower is downhill from the front door. If you camp where the soil has a lot of clay it could develop into a muddy mess.

there are a variety of portable outside shower set ups already available.....cabella's, dicks sporting goods, pro bass shop and others sell them, so do an online search or visit one of these vendors. the ones i've used have walls, roof, floor, shelves for soap, hangers for towels and floors that drain. i've also made a portable one from pvc pipes, blue tarps, zip ties and duct tape....but the ready made ones aren't that costly.

yes you want to set it up where the nature of the ground spot is considered....what will it be like wet?

also if you are wheeling into/out of the spot you might consider a cedar grid/latice portable floor to improve drainage and avoid sinking.

running the cold water lines outside isn't hard (the new ones already have a outside faucet) but hots another issue....so i would use the solar bags that the same merchants mentioned about stock. we use these every year on ragbrai and they make for a very warm outdoor shower. if it's not sunny enough the bags can be filled inside and taken out to the shower....

we want to see pictures of whatever you come up with!!

thanks for the replies.....brings up a point though.....do most camp parks allow the outdoor hanging showers.....just wonder what issue issue really is the concern..
