Our '67 Overlander project

Hi everyone,
We are new airstreamers, having bought our 1967 26ft Overlander at the beginning of March, 2003.
Since there was rotted floor in the rear and by the door, and rampant mildew.. I decided to gut it down to the interior walls.

Now that I am 6 weeks into the project and our family has stopped calling me insane, I wanted to post some pictures hoping for some words of encouragement.

The deadline is Memorial day weekend for her maiden voyage.

BTW - She is known as Queen Elizabeth 3

Looks very good with lots of attention to detail. I think many folks on this fourm can appericiate the work you have done as we also have taken on projects that seem to grow and grow and....

I have put up some recent pictures of the last 2 weeks work.
No, not retired - just driven. Actually I am 41 and work full time.
My work schedule for the A/S is basically this: Friday evening 5:00p-9:00p, Saturday 7:00a-9:00p, Sunday 7:00a-7:00p.
Week nights have been spent shopping, planning, rewiring fixtures and breaker box, and reconditioning original equipment.

Nice work. We like you are new airstream owners (1964 Bambi II). I have just started the restoration project. I Like what you have done with the dinette. I plan to convert a front goucho into a dinette/bed and I had something very much like what you have done in mind. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

I will be posting more pictures soon but I want to wait until the counter top laminate and T-moulding is installed.
This last weekend most of my time was spent finishing the fridge and hooking up the LP to the range and fridge. I had to cap off a couple of old gas lines for the oven and furnace that I removed.
Then crawl around on my back and check every connection for gas leaks.

I plan to convert a front gaucho into a dinette/bed...

Must be in the air...we are working on this same project as we speak! I'm 90% done with the woodwork and next are the cushions & table top. Hope to have the woodwork portion done this week in time for our first rally.

Lookin' good. Despite how simple it looks, I'm sure it was alot of work to get it just right. Where did you get the bins you are using? Mine isn't deep enough for bins, but that sure would have been nice. I'm always down on my hands and knees getting to the stuff under there. Pulling out a bin to dig through would be easier.

Actually I got them from a forum member who was piecing out his guts ~ they are working out GREAT! You can probably go to someplace like The Container Store or Bed, Bath & Beyond and find bins in many different shapes and sizes if you aren't particular about them being "Airstream-Originals". I'm sure they'd have something that could work for you, even if your space is tight...

Anyway, I hope to finish-up the benches tomorrow...then I'll take some more pictures and post 'em. Then were off to a rally on Thursday...nothing like waiting until the last minute, huh?! Oh well...

I saw some A/S bins on eBay a couple of weeks ago. They didn't ever get a bid . Maybe there is a history available from eBay. Worth a try?

That reminds me of a " been there ... done that ". After being up for 3 days and nites straight to finish putting my '65 GS show car together . I bolted the rear bumper on ten minutes before pulling out the driveway. My wife drove it to Chicago on its maiden voyage with me asleep in the passenger front and our three little ones in the back. Gettin too old to do that kinda silly stuff now.

I know the feeling...but I am having fun! It's a sickness....one you want to catch! I've just confirmed why most vintage units are owned by folks on the younger end of the spectrum.

Robert - what did you do for the interior skin? Did you remove the old and replace or is that the original skin painted?

We painted the original skin with a high grade interior paint.
We used Bleach and Ivory Soap in water to kill any mildew. Then Castrol degreaser/cleaner. Then rinsed again with bleach and water. We rolled and brushed 2 sometimes 3 coats.
