Original Airstream Keychain?

Just wondering if anybody has seen or has a keychain like this? What does the number mean? I'm wondering if it came with the coach or is something from the WBCC. It was passed down from prior owners. I'd like to find out if the number would give any history of the Airstream. Thanks for the help.

The number would be registered to the owner with whatever company owns that mail box. Its probably not a Airstream only deal but a company that is in the buisness of tracking lost keys. They just happend to print up some that had a Airstream on it. They would print a special key ring for any group that they think they could make some sales to justify the printing. It could be the Ford Motor Company or"Lucky Joes used car lot." They probably did have permission to use the Airstream name but it is not going to be a Airstream owned compnay I would bet.

That number is going to be like a WBCCI number in if it has gone stagnate then the company dumped the records. If there is any history attached to that number then its probably going to be protected and take a court order for the company to release any info related to that number.

I think the key chain is neat idea. I wish some enterprising Forum member (or other??) would offer that product. I'd like one. I'm sure there is more involved that just the keychain design and product-what would serve as the clearing house?? Anyway, interesting!

There are lots of places that make custom/promotional key tags. The difficulty would be the individual ID numbers, so the keys can get back to the owner.

Airstream already sells a nice metal key chain that could be used for this purpose, but I doubt they would want to go to the trouble themselves. This actually might be something to take up with the WBCCI - what a great thing to get a key chain with your trailer's ID number engraved on it. I'd pay handsomely for that.

I suspect this is the origin of overlander 76's key chain, or an AS club of some nature. There should be an old timer unit member in or from that area that would remember. How about writing the Blue Beret, and inquiring if anybody remembers the origin of these things?

Original Airstream Keychain?

I can't verify this, but it is a very strong suspicion. I remember my family's friends having a keyring very similar to the one in this thread back in the 1970s that they carried when traveling in the '64 Overlander. My suspicion is that it was a part of the insurance package provided by Caravanner Insurance which was a subsidiary of Airstream. I wasn't focused on Airstreams at that time so didn't pay particular attention. I know that Caravanner Insurance was mentioned in nearly all of the factory literature that I have for Argosy trailers from 1973-1979.

Is anyone one the Forum active in WBCCI who could investigate such a service through the club? We are the newest of newbies in the organization, just gaining our numbers this month, but others probably know the possibilities. If not, well, such an ID for the AS keys was once a good idea
