One of a kind Airstream?

I can't imagine who ordered this, but there's a story in there.
Used, but looks new, 2016 no interior.

If it had the door on the back like a panamerica it would make an awesome toy hauler.

Probably some kind of commercial use, to be parked in a mall or courtyard somewhere.

I saw a lot of mobile medical centers while traveling this summer, all in travel trailers or motorhomes. I can imagine one of those without windows would be ideal in some respects, but no climate systems?

Cool. Odd, but cool.

The thing that is most curious to me is that there seem to be no factory ribs or stringers. Did this really leave the Airstream facility without ribs, or were all the panels assembled outside of the facility (with wooden ribs)?

This has all the factory build structure, the wood was added inside only after the build...all the stringers and roof bows are in place.

Airstream does occasionally manufacture a shell for a major corporation. They are sometimes used as mobile shops, food trucks, mobile training facilities, etc. This one is pretty much a blank slate. It has the side entrance, and a rear cargo type door. It has no plumbing or propane. It does have 12v power and a power tongue jack.

If you would like more information, feel free to private message me.

Very interesting. I love the door (maybe not practical for daily use, but cool!). I'd love to see a pic with the back door open too.

Wood structure is designed to hold/support something. The pipe running on interior of road side is interesting.

My theory is to support autopsies of alien bodies.

Doesn't Timeless Travel Trailers order these shells? No windows or electrical.

Cheers

Sure would like to know what they where going to use it for.
Would Wally let it in the WBCCI or would it be like the Squarestreams not welcomed.

Airstream has a commercial factory direct division which will manufacture and sell trailers as shells for commercial requirements for businesses, vendors, etc. They also work, or did a couple years ago, with Timeless Travel Trailers and others to complete a custom interior and trailer design for a customer.

I spoke with them a couple years ago while acquiring a trailer for the company I worked for. They have a number of options for how it can be ordered in terms of length and features, and the factory rep was very helpful. There was a modest waiting period, albeit much quicker than one usually gets from a custom shop for delivery of the trailer, and consistent with the wait associated with any customer ordering a standard model trailer through a dealer.

Frankly, I very much like the idea of people buying and creating purpose built trailers new from the factory for commercial requirements. 1) it means they won't savage a vintage trailer for their business, 2) generally, a new trailer seems to look better and more professional than a savaged vintage trailer, 3) the frame and running gear will be fitted appropriately so that it is safe rolling down the road without concern that 6000 extra lbs of commercial kitchen equipment inside won't overwhelm the frame and suspension, and the brakes and lights will be working properly.

Looks like the front door is on the street side, rather than the curb side. Might it have been originally destined for a location where they drive on the "wrong" side of the street?
