I just discovered something weird today. I was using a heat gun inside the trailer to soften up some vulkem to remove it. The eau de Airstream was very apparent while heating the vulkem. Either the vulkem has absorbed the odors or it is the source of the odor. Any comments regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

like you that old musty smell drives me crazy! Here's a real simple trick I "discovered" when a mouse came into our basement to die. We couldn't find it anywhere. So, out of frustration I put 2 or 3 trays of bleach in the room. I used disposable plastic sandwich size containers & put about half an inch of Clorox in the bottom. The smell was mostly gone in 2 days, & totally gone by the time the bleach evaporated.
When we brought our MH home in May, I used this meathod again. This time for musty smells & moth ball overload. Don't ask me how it works, but it distroys bad odors. The air doesn't smell like bleach either, just smells clean.

I found this. I'm not sure what it means.

There is a product you can buy at home depot by all the cleaning products called "odoban". It has succeded where other products have failed at removing odors like cigarrette smoke. That being said, it won't crawl inbetween walls.

You're absolutely sure it's the Airstream and not what you are wearing?

Evertone is posting about how to get rid of the smell. What I am wondering is does the vulkem create the odor or does it absorb the odor. I recently had a 75 Sovereign and it smelled exactly the same as my excella. Is the vulkem the commonality?

Vaughan Funny LOL. Are you sure that's not a sick sense rather thatn a sixth sense. LMAO

Actually, I'm pretty certain that it is.

I suspect that the solvents in the vulkem as well as other adhesives used in construction all contribute to the smell.

A shoe repairman once told me that nearly everyone who came into his shop remarked how much they liked the smell of leather. He said that it was actually the glue and dye that they smelled.

Sort of like "new car smell."

Oh the odor. My wife is obsessed with getting rid of "That smell"! Abby just plain stinks! She needs lots of cleaning, scrubbing and disinfecting! Being parked for years in the Texas sun with the windows closed has not helped the "fresh" factor.
Good luck removing the smell!

We have had pretty good results with multi frontal efforts...

Get rid of the carpet...
Clean or replace all of the soft items...
Scrub all of the hard stuff...
Vacuum every inch to remove loose stuff...
Clean the inside of the AC...
Install an automatic Fantastic Fan...
AND...
run an ion machine when it's parked...

Even then the sole remaining 1-2 molecules will zap ya' nose from time to time...

AND sometimes that won't work...
I stuck the ION machine inside nasty the '63 we just bought...
and the next morning the machine was laying in the drive with it's own cord wrapped around it's intake...an obvious suicide...

Friends of ours had the same problem in their house when they would leave for months at a time ...a really stinky smell. They were told to buy plastic bins and put them in each room in their house and fill them with charcoal briquettes. It worked like a charm. They can be used like this indefinitely over and over or tossed into the grill for a cook out . Only two or three would be needed for an Airstream. When you load up for a trip simply put them in the garage or laundry room. This does work and is cost effective.

I dredged up this older thread after a considerable rain here in Orlando. The '66 Sovereign has always had a slight musty smell which intensifies after a good rain.I'm trying a simple fix.Open the closets and cabinets and leave them open.So simple, perhaps too simple but worth a try.
