Beautiful work, congrats! We just got a 1990 Excella 29" and are redoing the interior to get rid of that ugly yellow. What paint did you use for the interior walls?

Thanks Evan. I got the bottom painted this weekend, but I need a new gun as I'm not satisfied with the finish. It is nice to at least get to see the color on and know it is good.

Redthies,

First off great job on your last reno. That looked amazing. I am currently in the middle of a full restoration/reno myself.

Have a quick question for you. I am all about learning new skills as has been the trend throughout this entire job, but I have never used a air compressed sprayer. Is it possible to spray this thing on my own? I have a 22' Argosy. I would love to save some money and do it myself. Is it possible to do this out in the open or does it need to be shot indoors? What prep did you do to get it ready for paint? Any help would be great! Thanks and can't wait to see what you do with the Argosy!

As far as spraying do in early a.m. when no wind and maybe a little cooler. I have a friend that restores Nash autos this is the way he paints, he has booth does not use his paint jobs are flawless. I also do this way

Thanks for the compliments y'all! I appreciate the approval on our first resto-mod. We are actually working at making this hobby into a business. Hope that doesn't ruin the passion for us, but I doubt it will.

Crabbey1: The spraying really isn't too difficult. I have done a '69 F100 and a Lexus LX450 before. Both with what I am now finding to be a junk spray gun. My brother builds custom motorcycles for a living and I have been talking to his painters. They say you can use a cheaper gun (under $100) and still get good results. The one thing I do to make life easier when painting outdoors (which is almost mandatory with a big trailer), is to use a fast drying paint. This eliminates the long dry time when dust, bugs or rain can ruin your finish. The paint I use is an industrial enamel that I have worked with for years painting everything from Land Cruisers to ski lifts. It isn't quite as glossy as auto paint, but it is forgiving and incredibly durable.

I have some prep work to do on the upper portion of the trailer and will post pics as soon as it is worth looking at.

Redo/ Reset an Airstream project

I have designed and custom built many a Harley-- starting to get some ideas on an Airstream project. So much fabrication and great advice out there. And I thought I got into this culture to slow down. May sell a scooter or two, or simply stay off this darn forum

Luigi, check out Lucky 51 Hot Rod Cycles | Burnaby, BC . This is my brothers company, and he builds some amazing bikes. It's a similar addiction, but the Airstreams take up a bit more room in the shop!

If all else fails, in the first (nearest the top) dark blue horizontal bar, click the one that says "My Ads".

It'll be there.

Thanks guys. I don't spend enough time on here. The format is a little different than the others I frequent.

Time for some pics of the Argosy!

That about sums up the beginnings. Work is super busy right now so I am collecting all the bits and pieces for a bit of a marathon in the coming weeks. Or so the plans go...

save those latches on the overhead doors! They are rare and many others need them. Z

I just realized the post wasn't that old. I was looking at the join date. Duh. In any case, let me know.

Kate, I would love to do some work on your Excella, but I am located just north of Seattle. It might be more practical to find somebody closer? If we can figure out a way to get your trailer here, I'm game!

Well, I have contemplated moving to Fruitland, WA for years so you never know. I'll keep you in mind. And if I make it up there, it's a deal.
