new option for couch/bed

I have found and purchased the best option I have found for a new couch/bed convertible. It is from a company called West Elm and it couldnt fit more perfectly. I think they measured it for Airstreams! It is very stylish and contemporary as well as pretty comfortable to sleep on too. It was $800 delivered to my door and also just barley fits into the Airstream door! I have a 78 Airstream Safari that I put it in and I think it would work with any Airstream that has a side gaucho in the front. The couch has three stacked pads when in couch form, then flips out so that all three pads are lined up flat out and is as big as a queen bed. Since it is foam, it is pretty light as well.
Just thought you all would like to hear about my find and another option for sleeping.

The only thing more uncomfortable than sleeping on a '70's gaucho is trying to sit on one!
We gave up and installed recliners in the front (I've gone to sleep in one several nights) and a for-real-bed in place of the mid gaucho.

Hey HiHo, there are several of us entertaining the same idea. Can you post some pics of the recliners for us?

Oops, sorry that took so long...kinda been outta pocket for a while. We bought discount 7/8 size recliners, the scooted them around 'till they were as far forward as possible and still reclined. the curb side is slightly canted to aim it at the TV and clear the side cabinet.

What about useing a Futon mattress? I have a 68' Safari that converts from a sofa to a bed. Would that work or anyone have another suggestion. Not sure if I should just eliminate the frame and use something else as a sofa/bed.

Oh - I saw that in the West Elm catalog and thought it was a great idea for a spare room. But used in your AS is even better! Glad it is comfy - that would have been my question.

we got a Klick Klack when we went to buy a futon. folds down easy and more cozy. I do like the one you got though

I purchased from Bradd and Hall a Queen sleeper sofa back in 2002. It was 76" wide and the sofa with bed fit right into the frame effortlessly. It also came with a 4" mattress and the option of an 8" blow up mattress that was very comfortable. We switch it out as we went back to the mid coach twin beds.
The advantage to this sofa was it was a queen bed. It does fit through the door sideways, so these do fit. They also are pretty light, in comparison. I think around 125#. They anchor down to the floor with lag bolts, just watch your front fresh water tank when you bolt them in.
I'll see if I can chase down some older pictures from when it was in. We used it for almost six years touring America twice before we went to a jack knife leather style sofa, and now the U-shape dinette.
Amazing how things change over the years to accommodate what you are doing if life. But the great news is we are still doing life with our Airstream.
