Need a bathroom!

Hi, we recently got a 1972 Airstream Globetrotter - it is the version that has the space for the bathroom but no bathroom parts. No shower pan, no sink, etc. Is there a way to find some of these things or am I better off constructing/fabricating them on my own?

Welcome to the Forums!

Assuming you were serious about your description, I am unaware of a model that was built with space for a bathroom, but no bathroom installed. Some pictures would be helpful. I expect that a previous owner removed the bathroom, possibly to fix the floor, or to do an upgrade, and never finished the project.

Anyway, there are no new, off-the-shelf Airstream factory parts that you can buy that will fit right into your space. You might be able to find used/salvaged components that would fit, but they are going to be close to 50 year old plastic parts, that will be guaranteed to be in decrepit shape.

So you might as well jump into creation of a custom bathroom. There are many complete rebuild or "full monty" threads on these forums, many of which customize the bathroom. The search utility is your friend--lots of examples here.

good luck!

Thank you. I actually did extensive research about this bathroom situation and they did make two versions of the 72 Globetrotter ans one had no bathroom. (crazy right?!) I can't find the article right now but when I do I will post it. So looks like custom is the way I'll have to go.

Looking at the 72 GT bathroom layout, I donít think it would be that difficult. Time consuming but doable. Iím in the same canoe. Our 55 had no bathroom whatsoever. We are in the process of building one. It will have the same layout as the original, just self made parts. Had placed the shower drain when adding the tanks. Iím building a 1/4Ē plywood shower pan and will epoxy/glass fab when correct. Then will sand and finish with a pigmented gel coat. Donít know how it will turn out, but will see. I would think someone would have a thermoplastic setup for sale that you could modify to fit. Good luck
