Enough of this Tomfoolery!!
Once whilst dumping my black tank at home, (in my septic tank, of course!) My wife, Diane observed a mouse jump out of the back bumper compartment. I concured that when we had her plugged in at the farm market, the little buggers travel up the electrical cord, into the Airstream. So, keep some in the back bumper compartment, as that seems to be the main entrance for vermin. We also keep "sticky traps" in locations where mouse terds have been observed.

Mice
A couple of years ago, we had a real rainy spring and my truck just sat, unused, for about a month. When I started it up, it was quite sluggish. I found the tube into the air filter totally blocked with a field mouse nest, complete with a family of 4 little ones.

John,
Interesting about the field mouse nest. I have heard to check lawnmower and power equipment engines after winter because mice can build a nest inside the flywheel cover to winter over. By the way, had a friend go out one morning and start his truck only to hear a terrible noise. A cat apparently had been sleeping on or near the manifold and jumped straight into the fan. That must have been a mess.

Kirby Vacumn cleaner Vaporizer
My mother used to have a Kirby Vacumn cleaner accessory that you placed moth balls in and attached to the machine. I think the balls went on the suction side and the hose was placed on the exhaust side. Anyhow the moth balls vaporized and "moth ball gas" was pumped into the closet etc thru the hose if I recall correctly.
Seems that the hose could be inserted in belly of the trailer and into the duct of furnace as well and perhaps it would drive the mice, bugs etc out...or at least nuts.
Does anyone remember or know of the Kirby device?
My mom is deceased but I have the old Kirby somewhere, just not sure about the moth ball vaporizer.
Does anyone see a downside to this? Corrosiveness perhaps?

Moth Balls
Greetings Hex!
The Kirby accessory that you are describing was part of the accessory kit for the Kirby Dual Sanatronic 80 dating to the late 1960s to early 1970s. I have the full acessory kit inlcuding the moth ball attachment that replaces the dirt bag on the exhaust side. It has never been used, and I am not absolutely certain as to its effectiveness. The next time I am home, I will get it out of the box and see if it fits my later model Kirby - - the Dual Sanatronic 80 wore out about 1984 and my later (1998) Kirby didn't have anything similar in its accessory kit.

Moth Balls In Back Bumper Compartment
Went on "mouse patrol" Sunday, and saw no evidence of mice in the Airstream. As I said before, I keep an open box in the bumper back in the bumper compartment. Either the mothballs are working, or all the mice are hibernating for the winter!
