Microwave elevation...
Group :
In our quest for the pefect silver twinkie to retire with, which will replace our present 25ft Safari, we have had several considerations...
1) Centerline bed (30-31-34)
2) Sofa out...recliners in (see the "recliners" thread...& thanks to all...)
3) Dinette (31 is out...as no room for recliners...)
So that brought us to a decision between the 30 & the 34.
Gas prices, ease of handling, more possible campsites, etc...have us thinking the 30ft will be our next move...however, there's just one small problem...(well, two actually...cause we're not too thrilled about the open door crapper...but perhaps that will be a plus when we're older folks...anyway, back to the topic...)
In the Classic 30, they have the stupid microwave is down on the floor & we both "really" dislike that situation...& so...
I was wondering if anyone else here may have had that same feeling & then decided to move the microwave to somewhere else ?
It would appear that there's room over top of the stove for a box to house a microwave...& if so, I'm really curious as to why Airstream elects to sacrifice cupboard space in order to have it installed down low so people have to stoop to warm up a coffee ???
My thanks in advance to those who respond.
P.

Changeout the gas oven for a microwave/convection combo. You will regain the lost storage area. Of course, if you plan to do a lot of boondocking, you will need to purchase a genset....but, probably a good idea anyway.

It may come as a surprise but the longer a trailer the easier it is to handle both on the road and when backing into a site. As for gas prices I doubt if you would see a difference in the third decimal place when comparing the 30 and 34. I pull a 34 with diesel and get 12.7 to 13 mpg average per trip and I drive at 65 mph + while on the open road. Yes if you did most of your camping in the mountains mileage might be a consideration.
If you will be traveling alone the price difference would lean towards the shorter trailer.

Are there no pictures of an elevated microwave box in the forum here ??
I'm so hopeful to see what others may have done to solve this one !!

Paul, I'm looking for microwave elevation suggestions too. I really would like to find a way to put mine above the stove like in my house. It just seems to make good sense there being out of the way yet convenient. Maybe this isn't as important as flooring!

As an added bonus, the microwave in the 34' Classic is located above the counter so no stooping down to use it.

Hi, I don't know if this will help you, but the factory installed Micro-wave in my Safari is pretty convenient. It might give you some idea on where to install your's.

We built our own microwave/printer cabinet in our 25FB. Here are a couple of photos. We also added a pop-up shelf for extra counter space.
