Mice!!

Just brought the AS home from the storage lot to prep for the weekend. Obvious signs (you know what that means!) of mice inside, but no visible critters.

Went to the store for traps, etc.. Been storing the chains and cord on the hitch so as not to provide an easy leg up.

What's to be done to prevent and remove these, please? I understand it's a fairly common phenomenon. Your counsel is welcomed!

Cats. cats. and more cats. Maybe some snakes. Raccoons and Bears. Turn the toaster into a large Microwave oven. Rivet every hole with lemonade can lid washers and hardware mesh. Annoying little plug in ultra high freq beepers. Decon and One Bite until it stops going away. Then get some of the nice house deodorants from Home Depot and Lowes to cover the smell of drying meese.

I had this issue earlier in the year. We park our trailers in a field. Mice love fields and that is why they call them field mice.
We never had a problem until we came back from a trip late and were heading out the following weekend. I unloaded everything except the pantry, being in a hurry. That was all it took.

I will not make the mistake of leaving anything they can get into. Anything not in a can goes in the house now. We also take great care to keep the scene clean. Give them nothing of interest and they will go else where.

when you feed them their favorite food, make sure you put a stopper in the tub and sink drains. The chemical makes them seek out water. No water in the trailer, guess where they go... Once they do find the water the chemical quickly turns them to a mummy. There is virtually no smell, however having them die else where is much more pleasant than finding them under the bathroom vanity.

Dryer anti static sheets. The cheapest you can find, stuff them everywhere. Learned this from the old car restoration guys. Don't know if it's the smell or feel but mice hate them. Works great.

No mice for us this spring.. but pretty sure the 4 foot black snake that wintered in the trailer took care of them...lol

I'm finding the sticky pads seem to work, you have positive proof you got them, (yecchh).

You'll have to find out where they are getting in, and plug up the holes. This is all but impossible with the belly pan on, which is just a large mouse breeding chamber. Airstream left convenient holes here and there between the belly and living area, typically where water drains and other plumbing is routed. Good luck! -tim

Ramp leading to peanut butter covered TP tube placed over dowel.

Bucket filled with water, deep enough so the little mousy swimmers can do some snorkeling

Inviting catch phrases, maybe some LED lighting?

Since I've added the signage, the occupancy rate has increased 100%

Greg is right, dryer sheets work very well! We had a problem with mice as well and the dryer sheets drove them all away, and the trailer smelled great inside. You can also try putting some peppermint oil on cotton balls and putting those around.

Well, my experience is different. This spring, I pulled out a couple of nests, made (in part) of shredded dryer sheets.

I found another sheet that I'd left in a drawer, relatively unmolested...with several mouse-turds left on it. I believe they were sending me a message, which was:

I tried Artstream's diabolical contraption last summer, and didn't catch anything. Probably due to the fact that I neglected to use the proper signage.

seriously, my working theory is that they move along, after being evicted in the spring time, and I take out the trailer a couple of times, bouncing and rattling down the road...then they stay out for the summer (no compelling reason to move in)...and return when the weather turns cold, and the cycle repeats.

I like ArtStream's set up, we used a ruler diving board at a core shack at a mine, you had to go back and reset the diving board a lot.

Just be sure to remove the "no diving" sign that came with it from the factory.

Sadly, it seems that delicious Decon is not available on Cape Breton Island. How do I know this? We spent an unfortunate amount of time looking for it in little tiny hardware stores when our Minuet harbored a bunch of tiny field mice.

Putting the stinkiest, cheapest dryer sheets all over didn't do a thing. Patching a hole in the bellypan (where a furnace line once entered) and setting up traps got the visible ones. I caught one in the trap 90 seconds after setting it, with a grand body count of 7 in 24 hours.

But when we get home from Canada to the land of the free and home of the Decon, Decon it will be...
