Mattress Sources

Looking to replace single (twin bed mattresses) in a 25 ft front bed Safari. Looking for recommendations on sources for quality mattresses made to fit the contours of the airstream. Please advise.

You might find you can get a much better mattress by trimming a Tuft&Needle to fit the contours. I used a electric carving knife to trim down a twin to fit a space not previously used as a bed. It’s not difficult to do. They are thicker than your typical airstream/RV mattress but far more comfortable.

Jdcamp, there’s several threads on Tuft & Needle mattresses along with alternatives if you search the forums.

Airstream Supply has a whole line up to 10” plush: https://airstreamsupplycompany.com/p...ent-mattresses

There’s several references to Rocky Mountain Mattress (google them). They can get drawings of the original Airstream mattresses for a custom fit.

One other is Mattress Insider - they do custom Airstream mattresses: https://www.mattressinsider.com/rv-mattress.html

Our 2019 Globetrotter Twin came with factory Tuft & Needle and the new 23” GT Twin has them but two inches narrower. You might be able to get one direct from Airstream pre-made without having to cut one down.

By the way, we love our Tuft & Needle twins - so much nicer than the queen that came with our 2018 FC23FB.

Good luck!

We had two mattresses made at the Mattress Factory in Phoenix AZ. I had them make them with a top on both side so each year I could rotate them so they would not develop a soft spot. Great folks.

Here are the ones I found through web search. No doubt there are others. I was limited to those companies with queen rv size (prices shown). All memory foam mostly layered.

Zinus 8” $254
Dynasty 10” $299
Live & Sleep 10” $549
Plushbeds 8” $679
Matt Insider 8” $699
Tochta 10” $803

Twin Bed platform modification

I replaced the stock twin bed platform w/ 3-1/2” wider and 1” longer version using 11/16” thick plywood vs the 1/4” stock plywood. I also added a 3/4” x 1/2” rail to keep the bed from sliding off the new platform. I also added reflective insulation to the bottom to help w/ the cold intrusion from the outside bin. I finished the edge next to outside wall with a foam backer rod. Hopefully I won’t feel like I’m falling out of the bed now that the edge is supported.

I have bought mattresses twice now from Rocky Mountain Mattress. They are based in Utah, but the mattresses are made in either North or South Carolina.

The first ones I bought were twins with the curved end when I converted my 2005 Classic to twins. More recently, I bought mattresses from them when I converted my 2018 Interstate to twins. In both cases, I can not fault their service or product.

The mattresses are compressed and bound with plastic while in transit. It is wild to cut the plastic, stand back, and watch them expand.
