Looking for ideas for smaller dinette table

We find that our dinette tabletop is too big when sitting around watching the TV. We've been considering making an alternate, smaller, dinette table. Of course we don't want to change the existing tabletop because it is necessary when we want to use the dinette as bed space.

Has anyone done this or have any creative ideas or pics to share?

Regards

Yes. We had the factory cut ours down like a grand piano lid when we had them install a recliner instead of the awful bench seat.

Looking for ideas for smaller dinette table

Thank you, SteveSueMac.

We love what you had done with your table and the recliner! When you say "factory" am I correct in assuming you mean Jackson Center? Might you be willing to say approx what the factory charged to do that?

Happy travels,

I don't have the receipts handy but I think including the cost of the chair I had drop shipped to Jackson Center, it was maybe $1500ish? I'd have to go back and look. Oh - and they threw in the cute bloodhound for free (just kidding...). [emoji3]

What brand/model recliner is that and where did you purchase from?

I met Steve at Jackson Center last spring where he let us see his excellent conversion. It looks and works really nice.

We put the same recliners in ours. They are the recliners Airstream used on 2010 to 2014 Recliner 30' models. Google Villa Lift Recliner, a few companies sell them at about $750 each. Leather seating surfaces, very sturdy and comfortable, swivel, recline and has a leg rest. They are a good height and scale for the Airstream interior. Made in China but very good quality.

We have a boat that has an odd shaped table top. Other folks have found that a smaller simple round shape is better for their use. They replace the top with a nice piece of wood. Easy enough to try and see if you like it.

We have not felt the need for the change on the AS. However, there is no reason why a similar modification could not be implemented. The original table top could be kept for bed use as you suggest, or an alternate set of leaves could be fabricated that would fit under a bed for storage.

We thought moving the table top out of the way would be a frequent action, but have found we get along fine leaving it in place. Good luck with your research. Pat

Mojo - dkottum addressed your question correctly.

Another unanticipated benefit of the change - the "make a bed" option there no longer works so it makes it that much easier to explain it's a trailer for two and sorry - no space for that sleepover [emoji23]

Get one made locally

I made a small table top out of maple. We use it in place of the four person dinette top with either the factory benches installed (when we travel with a grand kid or two) or the two recliners (which is how we travel for just the two of us). Any local cabinet maker or furniture maker should be able to make one to your size specs out of any wood and finish you choose. Being an Eddie Bauer model, our trailer came with storage for the full dinette top under the bed and the second stantion in the wardrobe, so we have that on board if we ever need it. Here's a pic:

I made a smaller table for our AS and added a drawer. Works great, especially for a couple of our 'larger' friends. The original table is still kept under the bed. Used a high grade 3/4" plywood and added a heat sealed edgeing and many coats of a high quality sealer. The drawer is very handy for office type products and deck of cards.....Total cost about $60.
Will try to attached a couple of pictures....Andy

We bought a factory matching table to a Bambi. Nine inches narrower, it came with hardware and leg. So we just unhooked the stock one and hooked in the Bambi one. Found it in the factory parts book and ordered it from Out of Doors Mart.

Looking for a smaller table

Antique Pedeler,
Can you provide more detail regarding where you found the item/order number that you used to place your smaller Bambi table order with Out of Doors Mart? They tell me I need to provide a Bambi VIN which I don't have since my AS isn't a Bambi.

Appreciate any advice

Call Gretchen at Airstream ext. 7434. She's the parts lady. You need a part number in the right color, same year as the trailer you want it for. Also get a parts book PDF from the Airstream web site. I often use mine.

AP, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I actually emailed Gretchen last night. She helped us with a recall issue when we first bought our last AS.

any ideas for changing dinette table in Bambi 16?

I just bought a 2016 Bambi 16' and find the table too large to comfortably sit around. would like to be able to do two things:
1. completely remove table for better sitting area but not as a bed. You can do this but then where to store the big table becomes a problem because I would still want the option of a bed. I'm thinking a table that folds up or something like that.
2. install smaller custom table top, but would also like to be able to use the space as a be when possible.

would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
thanks

I have been considering making a change to the factory table in our 23D, and for pretty much the same reasons as you. Here's a post that shows what I'm thinking...

Sorry-this is my third attempt at posting photos- something seems to be amiss with the forum today.

The Lagun bracket is a top quality anodized aluminum arm that adjusts to virtually any position, locks quickly and easily and stores in seconds in a small space.
