Interior Shell Stripping

We're on the home stretch in trying get our interior back to bare aluminum. BUT, the last bit is exceedingly stubborn. We're using Rust-Oleum automotive "Aircraft Stripper" (80% methylene chloride) and heavy duty plastic scrapers.

Does anyone know of a final application that will take off the patchy, original primer coat?

We're planning on purple Scotch Brite pads, but what about aggressive polishing compounds, etc.?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I did it the same way on mine. Multiple applications of Aircraft Stripper and it finally all comes off. I also did some fine grain wet sanding before polish on my interior too.

Mine has come off well with the above mention aircraft stripper and for the glue underneath I have found that a product called goof off, that along with scotch brite pads attached to a mouse sander work the best. Mine didnt have primer on it.

Thanks Steve and MC33. I'm surprised to hear that you didn't have a primer, MC33. It was sort of subtle but for us the bird egg Zolatone came off fairly easily and if we didn't get bare metal, there was a manilla colored very durable primer coat.

We got through it tonight using a heavy coat of 80% MC followed fairly quickly by scraping with plastic razor blades (by Titen at AutoZone). It took three or four treatments and we followed that up by coating with the stripper then scrubbing with Industrial Scotch Brite scours. They are green, about 3"x4" x 3/4" thick and really coarse (Home Depot).

I'm gonna go in tomorrow and try the Goof Off because we're left with a gummy residue.

The vent frames are still a challenge.
