Interior propane lights (lanterns)

I'm curious as to when and why Airstream stopped installing these wall mounted lights. They're downright convenient when boondocking and I like the 'cozy little cabin' ambience they create.
My Caravel has one but if it didn't, I would be shopping for one.

I don't think anyone installs them anymore. They are still available. Reasons I can think of: Fire danger, CO danger, propane leak potential, lantern mantle replacement frequency, though they do have ruggedized lantern mantles these days, and heat output during hot summer months.

lanterns

before i bought my coach... i was biddding on a 1974 rig that had a factory installed propane light (calif)...

although i understand your concerns about carbon mo i thought it would be ideal for the time of year that one would just need a little bit to take the edge off of the dampness in the coach without having to run the furnace.....thats my 2 cents...frugality rules!....

Ronsgto,
A regular old Coleman mantle will do in a pinch and in the short term, NOT LONG TERM.

We have many Humphrey propane lanterns in our hunting camp and I believe that is the make that Airstream used to use. The correct mantles are pre-formed and look like this...

Do a google search for Paulin Humphrey and you will find all sorts of information on them.

Thanks much that helps a lot. Looks like some take tie on mantles and some take click on ones like the pic you show. I temporarly tied on a coleman one and it works but not very bright. I think it is a little smal. I will look into getting the right one.
