Question Interior Paneling 1977 Argosy

Hi! This is my first posting on this website so be patient if I don't get everything just right. I recently purchased a 1977 Airstream Argosy, 24' travel trailer. It seems to be in pretty good condition, but I will know more when the snow melts here in Montana and I can get a chance to work on it. My problem - I find that the interior wall paneling is wood with a vinyl covering - like lots of truck campers. The vinyl is pulling away from the wood so I stripped some of it off. Now I don't know whether to try and replace the paneling or if anyone can recommend a product that you put back on the plywood - something like wallpaper or???? Thanks for your help. Carol I think this restoration could become habit forming and fun at the same time!!!

Helllo to the world of Argosys

Welcome... if you are talking about the upper cabinets.. we were able to take off the vinyl covering?.. I think.. and we took all the trim off and used vinyl wall covering and redid them.. look great.. we would do it all over again.. in a few years.. lol.. Annie

Is this what you're talking about? You can strip the old vinyl off with a heat gun and replace it with vinyl wall covering using wall sizing and the self glued vinyl wall covering. It's not too hard. I can't get the picture of the wall covering being taken off to upload, but if you're interested I can email it to you. These pictures are of the finished wall covering on the back wall. That was all peeling and brittle when we bought the Argosy.

Thanks so much for your help and speedy reply. Actually the cabinets in my unit are still is great shape - it's the walls dividing walls that are peeling. I don't know why the same wallpaper application won't work there too. Thanks again - Carol

Thanks Juel! Sounds like my walls are in the same shape as yours were. Your Argosy looks great! Love the rug and the colors you have chosen. That's what I will do - get the rest of the vinyl off and put wallcovering up. Thanks for such a speedy reply! Carol
