It is going to depend on the interior layout, but it shouldn't be more than about 26'-6" and perhaps a foot or so less if it has a rear trunk.

I'm planning on gutting the entire trailer and customizing. Kitchen will be mid right wall(door side) mid left side will be an enclosed shower twin bed and enclosed lav.. Bed in rear. Do different layouts have different interior trailer widths?

Yes, in 69 or 70 not sue of the exact year, they got 6-8 inches wider... they might even be wider today i don't know... Mine is a 68' with my Sequoia I don't need extended mirrors to see around it...

Our 69 is definately wider than the 66, noticed it just backing in our tiny driveway.

They got about 6" wider with the introduction of the 1969 model, IIRC, then again in the 90's? with the wide body. FWIW my 75 and 81 are the same width, they are a bit narrower than my fullsized dually Ford, that means in a straight line, if the truck goes the trailer goes.

Yes, I've found with a little research that the 69 did get 6" wider, but I still can't find any information on how wide the 1966(or post 69) is internally. I'm guessing around 84" but it may be a few inches more or less than that. I'm still looking for a 66 sovereign, so not sure which layout I might find. The total length sounds like its around 26'6"(not including the tool box), any guesses on the width?

I am bringing home my 1957 26' custom Overlander the weekend of October 18th. I was looking for information regarding this myself-where can I find the measurements for different airstreams? I know that there are websites out there that have the listings that the serial number applies to-but no actual measurements. Anyone?

1968 Owners Manual

I have an Owner's Manual that shows overall width of all 1968 trailers as 96". It shows our 28' Ambassador 28' 11" Overall. And Overall height of all 68 trailers as 106" except for the 17' Caravel which is 104".

We measured our Ambassador inside to be about 25' before we gutted. Perhaps it is a bit more since the tongue is about 3', I think. Hope this helps. pj

'63 28 ft. Ambassador twin dimensions wanted for digital model

Thanks to the whole Airstream community for the forum, good info, etc. I'm pretty new to this and have just acquired a 28' 1963 Ambassador Land Yacht. I would like to build a 3-D digital model (Vectorworks) and am likewise looking for accurate interior and exterior dimensions (incl. curves, radii, etc.) to inform my model. Any thoughts on where I could get accurate dimensions, construction drawings, etc.? Much appreciate any thoughts. nd

I would try a google or Airstream search of the original owners manual of your rig. Our AS came with the manual, but I also printed off a copy to keep at home. It has layout, specs, etc, that are specific to my trailer. Maybe that will give you the dimensions you need?

Scooter,
If the interior is worth saving I have a friend of mine in Colorado who might be interested in taking the original interior off your hands. He has a 64 Overlander. He is also a master craftsman especially with metal. Let me know.
