Interior comfort

We own a 2006 International 28'. We are searching for examples for improving the comfort of the sofa. Any photos? Jack Hornbeck

Hi Jack :

Our next AS will be a classic 31 & we are having the couch taken out.

Our dealer said they've had (Can-Am in London Ontario) a few conversions like we want, which is to have the couch replaced by two lay-z-boy recliners.

Apparently the electrical rigging that's under the couch can be moved into a (end table type) wooden box that will sit between the chairs as a place for our coffee & "nibbles" to sit on.

We're planning on a great retirement in a few years...& after a hurricane, they never interview the RV'ers that have gotten out of the way.

I really have a hard time understanding "why" anyone wouldn't want to retire & go seeing things as we plan to.

What's that saying...Live more & do more, Seymore !!

The old back breaker couch in my 1976 had to go. So I replaced it with these two wall away leather recliners that are mounted to the floor. I built the table in the middle for storage and a lamp. I custom made the new fold down table and small side table so that they will work with the recliner in a sitting position. They are comfortable no matter if you are sitting or in full recline. I can sleep like a baby in these.

Hi Don,
What a wonderful arrangement! You have done a beautiful job with your living area. I use two comfy white leather chairs (with one ottoman) from Ikea, just not recliners. I left them mobile-easier to vacuum around them.

You have it "exactly" as I hope to have it set up.

We have the same arrangement with recliners here at home & just love it...watching TV & movies as we nibble on "fun food" with the gas fireplace going...it "almost makes the winter season bearable !!

We often both doze off in the chairs (as you say) & it's gotten to be quite a joke with us...we'll sometimes fall asleep & then at 2:30AM Mary will stirr, wake me up & we'll head to bed. When that happens, we say we've "escaped the chairs" !!

As I understand it, trailers built after 1997 are wider...so there would be a bit more room in the newer rigs to set this up.

Wouldn't it be nice if Airstream would offer this as an option instead of the couch !!

Anyway, by setting chairs up like this, I can certainly imagine you enjoy your Airstream a whole lot more...perhaps you could tell us a bit more of how it's been for you.

I can imagine it's like being able to bring your living room along to warmer places...something I hope to do in the near future.

Boy! Can we relate to that! Especially watching movies... seems I never get to see the endings. Guess that's good though, cut's down on how many to bring since we don't seems to watch 'em all the way though in one setting.

Nice work on your Sovereign, Don! Looks VERY cozy.

I'm not really fond of the double recliner setup. (Reminds me too much of my grandparents living room) Has anyone built in a proper couch that is actually comfortable?

Hi:

adonh, I love your duo recliner set up. When we're home we too "live" in our matching recliners - probably just like Journalist's grandparents.

We recently purchased a 29' 1992 Squarestream and these his and her's footstools were included. The previous owners had had them made in the matching upholstery as the sofa. They are hollow and exactly fit over a milk crate. (The "her's" is a little shorter and covers a modified, cut-down milk crate). They give just a little bit more storage - magazines fit perfectly - makes sitting on the sofa a lot more comfortable. They also are light weight enough to move all over the trailer to be used as a place to sit when working on projects or an extra end table. We've not even been able to take our new trailer camping yet but have already used these little footstools many times.

We thought we would share this idea with those of you, like us, who might not have seen this before. Hope the pictures show enough detail - they wouldn't be very hard to make. __________________

Those are really neat! I even like the odd mismatched height, seems to fit right in with the quirkiness of an Airstream. It would be really easy to build a set to contain rather than sit over the top of a milk crate as well. Thanks for the idea! Another project to add to my list...
