Airstream helps renovate ‘Millionaires’ Habitat’

(July 20, 2007) -- Fitzsimons, the owner of the 1978 vintage Airstream, said the “green” luxury trailer called “Mobitat” represents the ultimate mobile habitat for the discerning traveler, the natural environment of the millionaire.

Airstream Inc.
JACKSON CENTER, Ohio – Kevin Fitzsimons of Your Source magazine had a vintage 1978 Airstream and a problem – he wanted to renovate a 31-foot Sovereign Land Yacht into a vehicle for today’s wealthy traveler but needed parts and expertise.
Airstream Inc.’s team tracked down the hard-to-find parts and helped Fitzsimons’ team rebuild the beautiful trailer and retrofit it to accommodate high-end appliances, including a German $3,000 Kohler toilet, a KHV satellite and a plasma flat screen television.
“We couldn’t have done it without Airstream’s help,” Fitzsimons said. “They helped us put this thing back together, got us parts we couldn’t find, gave us the original manual. They were great.”
In addition to building world-class aluminum travel trailers, Airstream has a service center with a full contingent of mechanics and specialists whose business is general maintenance, repairing, and restoring trailers at the Airstream plant in Jackson Center. The expertise proved invaluable to Fitzsimons, who restored the Sovereign Land Yacht for the summer 2007 issue of Your Source.
Fitzsimons said the “green” luxury trailer, called “Mobitat,” represents the ultimate mobile habitat for the discerning traveler, the natural environment of the millionaire. yoursource is an upscale quarterly design magazine on lifestyles, interiors and architecture.
“We’re excited to be a part of this smart, high-tech, luxurious endeavor,” said Airstream marketing director Ben Owen. Airstream has long been recognized as a design leader. Most recently, in March, the Museum of Modern Art took a 16-foot Bambi into its permanent collection.

Interesting reading. It looks like they are just another trailer renovation company but this one markets to the ultra-wealthy niche. I certainly don't need no stinkin' $3K toilet!

Interesting article. I think that I prefer a Hensley as opposed to the toilet, but I guess that guy can afford both.

Reminds me of the guy in Japan a few years ago that had a solid gold toilet made that worked.........and he used it! Along with the rest of the 24K gold fixtures in his 'throne room'.

Why..........'cause he could!!

BTW, $3000 is not that expensive for an RV toilet. You should see the ones that I work on in the Prevost and Newells. They range from an air/water flush (Microphor) with a dedicated comprsor to the super water flush complete with it's own hi-velocity water pump (Headhunter). They work very well, but are really a trip to fix when they go bad............................

Why bother stepping on a pedal when you can just push a button to 'finish the job'......................

Wow, makes the head cost in my Safari seem reasonable.

I wonder what Airstream charged him for all that work.......
