My former 66 Trade Wind had a fiberglass end cap in the bath. It was finished smooth. I'm surprised to learn of a rough finish on the fiberglass in 62. Others will chime in and help explain. Yes, a photo well help.
Fiberglass is laid up in a mold. It would be hard to create a "popcorn" bumpy surface with this process. Usually the mold side of the fiberglass part is quite smooth, like a boat hull. Sometimes the resin is colored giving a molded in color finish. I believe my Trade Wind was made this way.
