Hello,i want a 50s style booth and table in the 66 globetrotter,but does anyone know how to convert this into a bed when its time for sleep? i enclosed a pic of what i want during the day,but i need a bed at night in the same spot. our daughter will sleep in the twin in the back.any ideas or suggestions?thanks everyone

Weeeell, our '66 TradeWind gaucho/dinette converts into a bed by placing 2 plywood planks side by side across the seat bases. Then the dinette cushions are used for the mattress. The planks are stored under the twin bed mattresses. I cannot believe (trying not to believe) that this was Airstream's solution. In our old Coleman tent trailers the dinette table became the 'bridge' between the seats. In your situation it appears the cushions are not removeable. Your table could be utilized but a 'mattress' is a problem. Great look,however.

If you do a Google search for RV furniture you can buy regular RV dinettes that are built to convert to a bed. Won't look quite as retro as the one you want however.

thanks,i really like that 50s diner look.and i dont want the typical rv furniture,there has to be someone who tried this? in my last airstream we did utilized the table as a bridge,but with the booth,well you see the problem.

Can you do something with improvising this? Or you could order a Villa booth that makes into a bed, I am sure you could order vinyl.

That sure is a beautiful dinette. I wouldn't do anything to it. Whenever we need more space in the trailer for sleep, we simply bring the foldup cot. Works great and folds away for easy storage.

The "Retro Diner" look would be great but conversion to a bed would be a design problem as the seat cushions are not shaped to accomodate the needed (top and bottom) area for a bed. Then too to bridge the gap between them and have a comfortable mattress to sleep on creates yet another issue... where to store the extra parts? Needles to say the Wurlitzer Jukebox is a whole other issue! LOL!

(I have one in mt family room rhat I would sell for $9500.00 if you are interested!) I would like to see what you come up with as a solution. I think that it would be terrific if you can work this booth into a workable bed. Let us know how it comes out. Happy Trails, Ed

If you're a good fabricator, or know someone who is......I see the bottom cushions sliding together to form the bottom of the bed, with the back supports folding down and outwards to provide the additional length to form the bed surface.

I made a couple of futons some years ago and found the steel hinge mechanisms in, IIRC, the Woodworkers Supply catalog. They might just be the ticket to get the end result that you seek, perhaps with a little modification.
