Header repair

With the summer heat and poor original installation my header has peeled away from the ceiling. The plastic strip which is supposed to join both portions of the header does not catch the adjoining piece.

Any suggestions as to the glue that should be used to join the foam rubber to the aluminum ceiling? I have a piece of plastic header strip that I am thinking of cutting to slip it under the in-place strip and over the loose header thinking I might use rivets to hold it in place. any ideas on this approach?

"Header" the term used in building construction, is not used in aluminum monocoque construction, so could you post a picture as to what your question refers to, and I or someone else will most likely be able to answer you question.
