my gutting process...
items of interest found were: white patent leather shoes that had one on the soles stapled on for a quick repair, a mother mouse with two babies, dead and live scorpions, termite homes, rodent homes, bird homes, green shag carpet, magazine pages from a 70's magazine, letters drawn in the black glue that held the old insulation in place and buttons of various colors.

Taillight housing restoration
You said: "I am posting the taillight redo.It took a couple of weeks of resin, sand resin, but they look new." (page 6 of this thread)
What a beautiful job you have done!!
I have been following this thread with much interest as I too have a "65" that needs a complete go over.
I would like to ask you about how you went about getting your taillight housing looking so nice. Is the resin that you speak of the resin that is mixed with fiberglass fibers to make fiberglass? Is this just painted on and sanded smooth. Over and over... My taillight housing is rough and pitted, dried out looking. Is that what yours looked like before your restore?
Thanks for your help.

Dan,
My cans were full of cracks, holes and pieces missing.
I used cloth fiberglass got it full of resin( you can get this at an auto paint store or auto supply.Try a marine supply too.) I put it down in thin layers of cloth.Let it dry overnight, sand and repeat for about a week till all is level.
You could probably use bondo for a finish coat, but I used fiberglass filler for pin holes and irregularities. It is red in color.
It was time consuming but worth it since they are irreplacable.

Surprises?
A few holes in floor (will replace all),more rivets I can count, those pesky frozen flat head screws,PO cut shroud to install elect refer, drain and trap pvc glued (is this normal)I am not to the bath yet but it is a beauty.PO pieced together plywood patches with L brackets!
To sum it up I have seen worse on the forum and best news of all no smell, no mouse poop, just two bird skeletons.

I see you stripped the inside thoroughly. Were you able to salvage the plywood walls?
I've just purchased a 1960 safari that has been quite neglected. I've begun removing what could, but stopped when the plywood wall and front closet proved to be held in place firmly despite removing several screws. Suggestions?
