Cool Guitars in airstreams...storage

I guess the title says it all. I have an acoustic guitar on a stand but was wondering if anyone has found a better place to keep it while
maintaining it's accessibility. I was thinking about hanging it from the ceiling?

I keep mine in the case by the bed. Not so accessable but more out of the way. We usually have a large hammer dulcimer and a guitar with us and often a mandolin. Keeping them out and easily reached is more trouble than you might think.

The shelf behind the front couch in front of the windows is where some things get set if they are to be used shortly. Just watch where the sun is coming in.

I'll keep an eye on this thread. I hope you get some good ideas.

Mine sleeps in its case in one of the closets between the sleeping area and the rear bath.

It shares the space with enough hanging clothes that it can't move.

Mine's in it case between the ottoman and the TV/Computer Monitor (See http://www.airforums.com/photos/show...0&userid=17830 to get the idea) grumbling, "Play me! Play me!"

I'll be watching for good answers too.

Depends on what you have for an Airstream/Argosy. For about five years we had plenty of room for a guitar, with only two of us in a thirty-one footer. I figured I would find plenty of people to play with in WBCCI, but after many rallies, big & small, I came across no other jammers.

After leaving the guitar at home and scaling down to a seventeen foot Caravel, I found players all over the place, but now have to keep the guitar in the back seat of the F-250.

Oh, well.

As far as accessibility, I don't think I would bring a stand with me on the road. Too much stuff, but then, I am a minimalist, more so when I'm camping.

I keep mine put away as well, but to be honest, mine have solid wood tops. Keeping them out without benefit of some humidity source can do bad things to the woods (assuming they are solid). I occasionally keep mine out at home in the summer, but that is only because the relative humidity is high. I'd be afraid of damaging the top in dry weather.

Wish there were another way! I would play so much more if I had better access! Like the rest of you.. I'll be watching this post as well. Nice to know we have a bunch of folks that enjoy playing! Camping, a camp fire, a nice evening and music... Just doesn't get any better than that.

We keep guitars in cases until needed. We travel with 2 in hard shell cases and they are stowed in the shower. There is room for a 3rd ...

We almost always find some other players at rallies and campgrounds and even when we don't, they get played every day (usually more than once).

It's a dilemma. Bring a good guitar and expose it to the humidity at night, as well as the heat & smoke from the campfire and hard to tune due to temp & humidity changes? Bring one that you don't really care about exposing to the elements (crappy instrument) but is difficult to play? I'd like to find something in between...

Mine stays in the case unless I'm practicing or picking with other folks. One of the main reasons I bought our Airstream is to take to the many music festivals we attend throughout the year. Most specifically the Walnut Valley Music Festival in Winfield, Kansas in September where we camp for 10-14 days.

You might want to try one of the CA or Rainsong carbon graphite guitars. They are nearly immune to the environment and generally sound and play well. Certainly not like a vintage Martin, but perfect for hazardous situations. I have several friends who use them as their touring instruments and are very pleased at the stability of the instruments.

Put large desiccant packs/bags in the guitar case to control the humidy problem and moisture damage.

The good stuff stays at home except for special times but I have an old beater that has been dropped banged broke and fiberglassed back together several times. I hate to get rid of it because its been tweeked and plays really well. It lives in a soft case and in the 29', traveled on the bed and stowed in a stand on the street side living area. It's going to make it's maiden voyage under the dinette in the 34' is this weekend.

We found a bunch of these online. They take up very little space, fit in any cabinet or drawer and are not effected by humidity or temp changes.

This is worth it

CA or Rainsong is the only way to go for our camping crowd. Leave the Martin and Gibsons in a safe place if marginal conditions are there. That carbon fiber Will suprise you.

I have never considered taking my 70's Martin in the Airstream, but if I do I will be in its hardshell case. I might consider it next yr if i know others might bring their guitars. I have not had a chance to play with others for yrs.

My old Yamiha beater rides in the tub in a soft shell . Over the years it has become my favorite.

We REALLY should have an Airstream Jam

I have room for everyone if we can put an acoustic jam together.

When we have our son with us, he keeps his guitar in a hard case beside the bed in our rear bed model. He brings his Taylor if conditions are favorable and his cheapie if they are not.

I was inspired to look into the carbon guitars. Wow, they are beautiful. Expensive as well. I guess the only carbon we will be toting with our Airstream will be our bikes. They ride just fine in the bed of the TV. No hard case needed.

Wish we played some thing. Only thing that comes from our A/S (inside or out) is the CD player - with really old music. Do wish we were a little more - today.
