Anyone know where I can get a replacement mattress for a 76 Sovreign gaucho? My frame is OK I just want a similar mattress.

Did you have the entire mattress made, or just the upholstery??

Futon

Look at using a futon mattress they come in several different sizes. That is what I had considered using for my old worn out cushions / mattress

Foam

I don't know if this will help, but I had a site marked for foam. It was MemoryFoam.com. I did just try it and could not connect. I do remember they had multiple foams including latex (lasts longer???) and a couple types. They could even bond different density layers. If I were spending a lot more $ than I have I would have tried them, but my mattresses were okay, just needed new covers, it cost me about $500 but what an excellent job-worth it!

Look around the net, there were a number of those listed. The idea of layering a thin memory foam over 2 layers of increasing density sounded like a heck of a gaucho (couch---whatever!)

I just bought a king size 3" memory foam topper, cut it in half and placed one on each of our gouchos. It worked great for smoothing over the "crack" between the cushion segments. I know that doesn't answer your original question, just a consideration.

Still looking for an answer to my original question.

Sounds like you put a foam cover over your existing mattress for sleeping. We currently do this, however, I'm looking to replace the existing mattress with a new one that functions like the one we have.

The couch is very comfortable as a seat.

The bed is very squeaky and uncomfortable to sleep on (30yr old springs); and the fabric does not go with the updated decor.
