Red face Gas assist struts for lifting bed to access storage.

Does anyone have the answers to the puzzle we've come up with? We own a 25' Excella 1999 and want to convert the underbed storage so we can lift the mattress instead of using the side drawers... We have the new board in place and the "piano" hinges on. However, where should we place the struts in relation to the bed (it will lift from the side) and do we just use regular automotive struts??

Thanks for your time... and expertise! ^_^

Phil,
We have an '07 Classic with a rear twin, centered. Hinges at/near the head. It lifts from the foot. There are two (2) auto type hydraulic arms, one on each side, mounted on the lower frame and attached to the bed board. If you want pictures, PM me.

If regular auto struts don't seem to work, maybe the mothership can provide or check with Andy at Inland RV.

If I'd had my glasses on AND turned on the light, I'd have seen the print on the strut.

Thumbs up wow... fast help!!! ^_^

You sure know how to get a question answered fast! ^_^ Thanks again.. I've bypassed the mother ship and went directly to our "home planet" to see if they know where to find some. May try the auto type since I was able to find the brackets they would fit with....?? The pics sure helped show the placement!

Have a great day!

I got mine at McMaster-Carr. They have the fittings and any pound of force you need. Excellent shipping. They have anything under the sun hardware related and pretty good guides on selecting items. Their catalogis available on line.

Red face ??

How did you know you were getting the proper lift strength?? Do you measure the weight of the bed/mattress?? And the length of the strut??? This is getting confusinger and confusinger. The pics are still our best bet... ??

Edee,
Like I said in my PM. My Classic came with the struts. Check out the Masterlift nomenclature. Check google for masterlift, Glastonia, NC. That will be a good place to start. Call them with the numbrs provided in the PM and thread. That should do it.

Looks like it is your lucky day. I recently converted my queen to twins so I have a pair of the struts. Pay for the shipping from zip 38611 and they are yours.

Well, many times I am signed on but not at the computer. Gave away the queen mattress a couple of weeks ago and now the struts. I'm about tapped out.
