Freebies from Safari

After doing piecemeal refurbishments on several other vintage Airstreams, I'm going to dive into a complete gut job. The first order of business is to part out the interior cabinetry to make room for a completely new arrangement.

To be eligible for freebies, you need to be a supporting member of AirForums. Your only cost is shipping. PM me if you are interested.

The following items are available immediately:

Original water filter and original pump. Pump is not working, but I have seen other posts that claim these are refurbishable:

Roller drawers (5) that fit in the under window cabinet and five drawer glides and rollers. In addition, one extra roller the is salvageable.

Tambors from under the front bed. This frame has an added feature of molded end caps.

Tambors from under the curb side couch. They are identical to the tambors above, but the frame doesn't have the end caps and the total frame is slightly shorter.

Bed rail glides. A couple months ago I believe I saw someone in a tizzy looking for these.

additional items that are available immediately:

Bed rail pullouts, 2 sets of four. One bed support frame is also available, but has been disassembled into its major frame pieces. If you want the whole assembly, you'd also get the glides from the previous post.

Soon to be available:

Three vent light diffusers and 3 vent lights. The switches all work and the knobs are the pull-off type, not the screw off type (the screw off knobs were from earlier trailers, like 1972 or so).

One original ducted vent. Vent crank works OK, but fan does not come on. This could be a microswitch problem or a dead motor or even a fuze--I haven't investigated that far. This vent has the translucent cover.

Two original vents with solid aluminum covers. The cranks work OK.

No photo available.

Upper cabinets: The street-side cabinets and tambors that were originally over the kitchen and the closets will be available. I'm still having an internal debate about whether or how soon the curb side might be available.

a couple more items that are worth mentioning:

In this photo taken from the bathroom door, you can see the small credenza on the left that has a flip-out drawer for the radio. The aluminum skeleton in the middle is one-half of a bed frame. Also, note the plastic window surround just forward of the no parking sign--that is most likely also going to be available. In addition, the eyebrow cabinet over the front window will also be available eventually.

The under-bed "bins" are standing on end at the far end of the photo. These are practically impossible to pack and ship, so I cut them up and use them for out of sight patches and for other sheet metal needs. There are five of the larger brown plastic boxes that go in these bins.

The trash guys come on Monday, one week from now could be a deadline... (the elipses are for 2Air, of course).

It occurs to me that most of the "salvaged" items are tambours. Take a look at dmroot's elegant alternative--looks great, functional, and will last a lot longer than salvaged tambours.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f420...1-a-31328.html

the trash man comes on Monday. I won't toss the tambours and small parts, but the frames and bigger stuff has to go.

I'll take a closer look today. I think the rear two vents are solid covers. the front one definitely has the translucent center window.

we could actually use the other vent cover

if you think it would work on an Argosy. Also, just the cover. The PO said it blew off going down the road because they forgot to close it.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about Argosy lids, or much else [about Argosies] for that matter. If anyone else can help here, thank.

Here's the little radio cabinet, available with non-working cassette radio. You can just see that the formica band on the edge of the top needs to be reglued along part of its length.

I'll sort out all the requests, both PM'd and here, and get back to everyone this weekend. Gotta hit the road for a couple of days.

Here's how everything shakes out. I'll pack them up as soon as I collect enough cardboard.

Under sink tambours --SGIST32135

Kitchen and Bedroom lights --Kevin245

Filter and Pump -- Excella CM

Pop up table -- Silver Threads

Goucho tambours --Overlander63

there are a few things I haven't gotten around to:

vent cover -- Wabbiteer, I just haven't remembered to check. Ditto Jeffnjen30, I think there are two solid vent covers.

lights -- Bob Fowler, you're in line for the lights from the Ambassador, if it gets parted out (see http://www.airforums.com/forums/f173...dor-37519.html)

upper cabinet end caps -- Coastalview, there are two end caps in the Ambassador, so same deal, if it gets parted out. Ibedonc, I haven't decided about the upper cabinets in the Safari, but you're first in line for and end cap from the Safari upper cabinets if I take them down. Did you want tambours, too?

Pop up table -- Bertro, there is a pop-up in the Ambassador. I'll keep you in mind.

Joe

Here's an item I discovered today when I pulled the water heater. The electric heat controller seems totally intact and when switched on it loaded the generator, so I think the heating element still works. I have no clue about the element's condition, but I'll pull the whole thing out of the tank if someone needs it.
