Fitted Flannel Sheets?

Hi,

Does anyone know of an outlet for decent quality (6oz. or better) fitted flannel sheets for our short (75") AS queen bed with two 8" radius corners? We tried to get a seamstress to shorten a standard set but she said this was quite difficult, I think mostly because of the elastic. We've tried going on line, the AS store, AB lifestyles etc. Just haven't come up with anything that actually specifies these dimensions in flannel.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

We bought standard sheets and then used sheet suspenders to keep them "fitted". Here a link to some on Amazon.

I made fitted sheets for the twin beds in my AS. I started with a reasonably good quality queen size fitted sheet (bought at Walmart - 400 thread cotton), and used a single dart for the square corner and 4 darts for the curved corner. Got the foot for the sewing machine that allowed me to sew elastic to the hem and it all worked out just fine. BTW, my sewing machine is a c.1970's Elna Lotus I picked up at an estate auction a few years ago.

Thank you both for helpful ideas. I don't think my sewing skills are quite up to par for doing the darting although, I understand what you mean and might be able to find someone more qualified. "Sheet suspenders" look like a good idea too if we found something that almost fit.

I latched onto a old friend who does quilting - she walked me through the process. See

Thanks again for your responses. The funny thing is, it would appear no one (who has read this anyway) knows of a place to just buy a set of flannel sheets. Either of us are good with a sewing machine. We love flannel sheets though, even in the summer, but especially in the winter. Hard to imagine they aren't available already made -- maybe so. Hmm, could be a business opportunity. Does anyone else wish they had some already made/fitted flannel sheets?

Have you checked with AB Lifestyles? They make all kinds of custom AS bedding, which we can recommend.

Previous AF mentions: https://www.google.com/search?q=AB+L...=airforums.com

Good luck,

Peter

PS don’t see flannel on their site, but worth a call or email IMO.

Frankly, I prefer good 100% cotton to flannel sheets. Ordering made-to-measure sheets will be expensive. However, making fitted sheets from either flat or standard fitted (e.g., queen or king) can save you a pile of money.

The whole exercise started when an old friend who does quilting steered me through the making of a set of custom quilted mattress covers using 100% cotton 400-thread king size sheets with 100% cotton filler. The final result was a set of really good set of mattress covers.

It wasn't rocket science, so I used the same principles to cut down fitted queen sheets into fitted Airstream twins with the rounded corner.

Try it, you'll like it!

OTRA15 Yes, I tried AB lifestyles although I didn't call them. I'll try this. Maybe they have a suggestion. Thanks!

blkmagikca Apparently flannel is made from various fabrics, cotton being one of them. A definition I found is simply "a soft woven fabric of various fineness." We'll probably wind up doing as you suggest. Thank you.
