Can end cap support 15# TV?

Hello....

I'm trying to find a place to mount my flat-screen TV. Just what is behind that plastic on the end cap?!? I'm looking at placing the TV in the curve section.

Any ideas?

Judging from what we just did to push out the dented end caps on our Sovereign, there's NOTHING behind the plastic but insulation. I don't think that would be a good place to mount a TV.

Nothing back there

If you look around the outside edge of the endcap, you will see the rivets that are holding it in place. Other than those rivets, there is nothing else holding it up there, and the only thing behind it is insulation. There are not even any cross-members for support in mine not sure if yours would be the same.)

I had thought about setting my small LCD up as a flip down just under the shelving in the endcap but adding supports between the endcap and the fiberglass shelf shell itself and bolting the hardware into that.

I ended up changing my mind on layout so now it isn't going there, but that would work. My endcap is actually two pieces the molded shell for the shelf and the endcap itself. I figured I could add support between the two where the tv would hang and that would hold it there. This involves removing the endcap though.

Suzanne,

Do you not have a panel/wall that you can mount one of the original style swing arms on? That way it could be rotated to be viewed from several angles.....

Thanks everyone....really appreciate the answer to my question. I'll look elsewhere for mounting that TV. Suzanne

I mounted my 15" lcd on a swing arm that I fastened to the wall panel right by the front door of my 34' so I can watch from the couch or swing it around and watch from the dinette. Works great. I was also the computer monitor before I bought the laptop. I had it set up with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

If you are realy interested in mounting to the curved end you will have to take the end cap down and apply a reinforcement behind the area you want to mount to. I would suggest fiberglassing an area at least 2 ft by 2ft using several layers of 6 oz. glass cloth.

I have used this technique, to a much small degree to repair cracks at the ends of the cabinets in the end caps.
