Building in a Computer area in closet

Hi. I have a 31 foot, 1978 Sovereign with the twin beds in the back and the central bath. Across from the bath is a BIG closet. About 2/3 of it has the bin in the bottom where all the Water System equipment is located on the right. Aft of that bin is the power, circuit breakers and so forth, then the wheel well with an area over it for more clothes. This part of the closet looks like a good place to build in a computer area as we carry computer, printer, etc. when we travel.

The hallway is narrow so the computer user in such an area would be a major blocker to traffic if they sat at a computer there. I am considering installing shelves in the closet in this area and running the cables along the back of the closet wall to the shelf top in the living area. Printer and so forth could be in the closet along with the major plugs, scanner and so forth.

I would love to hear from anyone who has taken on such a task and hear/see? your ideas.

Thanks, JLD

My dream system would be a network-compatible printer hooked up to an Airport base station (any wireless network hub would work) and a 17" PowerBook. That way, I could work on things from the bed, sitting at the front dinette table, or outside in a lawn chair, checking e-mail and printing wirelessly. If we're already out in the wilderness to enjoy nature, it's a bit of a shame to tether yourself at a computer station!

I guess this really doesn't address your post at all, but if you happened to upgrade in the future it could be one way to go about cutting down on wires, pull-down tables and extra chairs.

Being a nework closet junkie, I can tell you I have it and it works well.

If you have an new Airport base station, you can connect a inkjet to it and print, or you can connect a cheap hub to a real network printer and the Airport and you now have a network printer on your wireless network.

Wink

Eric, we'd better watch ourselves. A few more gushing comments about Airport will likely get us relegated to the "Apples n' Airstreams" thread again.
