Building Acrylic Shelf - Glue? Screws?
About to build a shelf out of black acrylic, which will be mounted above the bed on a 16' CCD. It will be about 9" across, about 3-1/2" deep, with a lip just high enough to hold two coffee cups.
I've rehearsed this with scrap sheet, and found that yes Virginia, I can bend the stuff acceptably well with a heat gun, to make a groovy curving front matching the wall's corner.
Design is a back plate attached to the wall, the curving lip of the shelf, and a bottom, these 3 pieces assembled with ???
My rehearsal with superglue went ok, considering my sloppy cuts. I'm planning on doing the real thing with Weld-On #16 or clear PVC cement.
Is the extra cost of the Weld-On worth it? Will a glue-only piece survive the jarring of a trailer being towed, or do I need to add screws? And if so, how to safely screw this 1/4" thick material?
