Beds & Sheets

This isn't a restoration question per se, but this seemed the best place to "file" it.

So I'm getting to know my new 19' Bambi, and I'm curious about the bed. It of course has this odd curve at the top left. Where does everyone get sheets for this thing?? What standard size bed is this the closest to?

Hayley

The Airstream store sells sheets that will fit most (many?) of the beds.

I've got a corner bed, and simply use regular double-sized sheets though - it's cheaper and I can choose whatever color I like!

Hello Haley,

If you go to the airstream store they have sheets that are made to fit the corner bed....they work great and do not pull out like regular sheets...hope that helps. Randy

The other option is to use regular twin size bedsheets and just tuck in the extra fabric. This is what we do and we have had zero problems.

Hmm, as new members we were just looking at this situation. At approximately 60 x 83, the only sheet size that would seem to fit our dinette bed is California King. None of the Airstream factory bedding packages are that big.

Custom made appears to be the only other option...

After looking at those sheet prices I think I will go to the lady that did my gaucho upholtry ($300 each gaucho---new cusion fabric & labor, plus a duck canvas slip over cover for each) and have some sheets made for the gauchos, I am sure she will come in considerably cheaper for the same quality. Those are some pricy sheets!

Hey I can answer this one! I got mine at Walmart, they are elastics with rubber thingies at the end that help sheets stay in place. So I bought great sheets that were the closest size, then I adjusted the straps to make the bottom one perfect. We top the fitted bottom (which I'm proud to say looks great and stays in place) with 2 twin comforters (his and hers) that lay over the entire bed. The color coordination turned out great. The rubber elastic thingies were about 4$ canadian.

We bought the mattress cover from Airstream and have been disappointed. We use a 3" memory foam topper and the mattress pad won't accommodate the extra thickness. The elastic pops off the mattress and scrunches up the topper.

We ended up with an interesting solution - a queen-sized silk sleep sack, to sit on top of a padded comforter, and a blanket thrown over as needed. We just tuck in the corners over the multi-cushion mattress, roll out the silk, and place the pillows. The arrnagement stores without much bulk, and we'll see in a few weeks if it sleeps successfully over the long haul.

Just use regular sheets--and stretch garters under the mattress to keep the sheet in place.

Hayley,
We have been using Travasack for a while now and love it. They are what I would call a "glamping" sleeping bag. We put an egg crate foam pad on the matress, cover it with a fitted sheet, and throw the travasack on top. They look great and making the bed is a cinch. They have an integrated sheet, zips up for coziness, and you put one side up for winter sleeping and the other side up for summer sleeping.

Love the "glamping" word, never heard it before.

Thank you Overlander! Stretch garters perfectly discribes my elastic with rubber thingies. They worked great and didn't need readjusting.

We also have a 19' Bambi...For ease in bed linens, Greg took a full size fitted sheet (with the elastic edges) and customized it to fit the mattress just to have the mattress covered...he uses a neutral color for this so it will go with any of our linens (beige or tan is good). Then he took two twin flat sheets and made a custom-shaped duvet-type cover (large pillow case affair) that holds a full-size feather bed leaving it open at the bottom...he didn't have to custom-shape the feather mattress itself...he just tucks inside the cover and the shape of the cover does the rest...that's what we sleep on top of...then we use a full flat sheet with a twin size comforter if weather calls for it...otherwise, just the sheet...then a throw on top of that for the 2 cocker spaniels...yes, they squeeze in, too... This set up makes it easy to fluff the feather bed and freshen the linens... He's got it down to a science. During the day, the bed pillows go into a double pillow sham and the comforter goes inside a second sham that rests behind the pillow sham and the bedspread goes on, with a couple of throw pillows to make it a lounge area... Pic below is the bed with the bed spread (black fleece), pillow sham, comforter sham behind that (and matching window valances and throw pillows). (This is our "Paradise" decor. I know I will regret this but...........

Can you post a picture of these stretch garters, please. I am hoping that they are not some type of apparel. If so, please omit the live model and just show the garters.

Dave, they are in fact ladies' clothing items. Naturally I can't find any photos of them sans models, but a trip to WalMart should net you some...
May The Farce be with you...
