Bed Up Front?

I've only seen one mid-length vintage Airstream with a permanent bed up front--Blu_Hwy_Lady's Safari. If anyone else had remodeled with a bed up front arrangement (permanent, not a pull-out), would you mind posting your design and photos? Thanks very much.

I'm just in the take-it-apart phase on my Safari, but would like to be thinking ahead on the interior details. I'm very interested in doing a bed up front arrangement.

Zep

Darol did his 68 TW that way. I'll post a picture of it for him, I don't think he'll mind. The only picture I have of it is with the bed open showing the storage area underneath. He also replaced the side gaucho with a dinette.

Thanks Steph! Zep, I also have photos of a '71 Safari that I remodeled with front bed and side dinette, but I'm not able to post photos here for some reason. Maybe I'll email them to Steph and have her post them. Darol

Darol and Stephanie, thanks very much.

Solving the wheel well problem for the side dinnette is one of my issues. I know I've seen someone who put a slightly curved bench against the shell, with a thin table parallel to the isle. I'd love to see that design, too.

Wow, that's a neat way to work around the wheelwell problem.

Have you considered a modified version of the 25'-30' Safari front bedroom Airstreams of the last 3-4 years? The 30' Bunk introduced in 2004 as a 2005 model was the first of the line followed by the 25' FB and was later expanded to the 27' FB and 28' Classic FB and International lines. The 30' is the only model to feature a door at the middle to front of the coach.

Mine has a sofa to the left of the door as you enter that covers one wheel well and the wheel well on the road side is concealed by the dinette and kitchen cabinets. Most of the 30' Bunks had a pair of swivel chairs where my sofa is located and the wheel well was located beneath a flip-up writing table.

I don't have any photos of the layout handy and, unfortunately, Airstream no longer features the plan and photos on their website, but all of the newer factory front bedrooms feature a walk-around "island" queen bed in the bedroom; they are either perpendicular to the length of the trailer or parallel to the Lent of the trailer depending on trailer length.

Zep, unfortunately it's not my trailer (I'd love to claim it, though). I believe the owner has since sold her Airstream and moved on from the forums. Sigh.

Mate of Minnie,

I looked at the 2007 floor plans and the only one I see like these are is the 20' Safari SE

http://www.airforums.com/forums/474608-post1.html

Airstream solved the dinnetter problem in that one by jamming the dinnette up against the bed. That's OK for a very short trailer, but I think I can do better in a 23' Safari.

The 30' was only made for model years '05 and '06 with only a very few made in '06 so they are no longer displayed on the web site. This island queen would take up too much floor space in a 23' but you might try the 20' layout with a perpendicular bed layout with a closet at the foot of the bed where the dinette is in the 20' and a partition separating the nightstand from the living area and then modify the floor plan from the door back with either sofa or dinette over the wheel well and kitchen cabinet over the other wheel well. This of course depends on where your door currently falls.
