Bid retraction

Can see that the high bidder retracted their bid...now to the next one...I still can't believe it's at 4 grand.

Since Steve sent a link to TLC, I sent one to the high bidder. I sure hope any of those bidders realize what their bidding on.

Embarrassing what was done to that Airstream, and now they have the nerve to fob it off on some else to finish.

Smile Hit and Run...

Let's not forget that the poor owner of that hit and run job is an Airstreamer and deserves all the support and respect that we can provide. Personally I would love to see him make a killing on his auction. Perhaps one of the Hollywood builders of the stars will pick it up and turn it into a back lot palace.

I watched the episode this morning and I pray that the owner finds his way back into an AS that he can make into his own "man cave" after all.

Steve

Hopefully the high bidder has extra $$$ to complete the demo of the trailer, or maybe tow it back to the TLC channel, and get some help from them.

If you accept at face value the producers' claim that the budget for the materials used was $2000- (the seller says the two recliners cost $1200),and deduct that from the auction bid, that makes the stripped shell "worth" about $2K of the sale price, if you regard the labor as free, which I do.

If the running gear is sound (which I doubt somewhat) that seems to be toward the high side of the reasonable ballpark for fixer-uppers.

What would the trailer have brought at auction as-was at the start of the show? Less than $4000, I think. More than $2000? Perhaps not, but most likely yes, in my estimation. If that is correct then the makeover was negative value overall, but since the materials and labor were donated by the show, the owners benefited by the difference between original value and the $4000 final bid. They made about $200-$500, I guess.

I would be interested to hear if anyone would assign different figures. Of course it is somewhat speculative, but we really aren't talking big dollars either way here. "Totally ruined" is not exactly right, just as "unique and desirable" doesn;t really apply either.

Unhappy Final profit for owner

Lets not forget those wonderful insertion and final valuation fees that ebay makes from the sale. Consider another hit for roughly $170.00 to the sellers bottom line.

I'm really sad for the guy. Now she has him trapped, in her lousy one bedroom apartment. He's lost the 'man-cave', his only refuge.

She has him collared and tied.

Next she's gonna take away his skydiving privileges and make him get a desk job.

Question for those of you that have seen this episode, (my local listing has it broadcasting on March 25, talk about us folks in my area getting to see something when everyone else does/goes along with waiting almost four weeks, for Airstream Life publications to arrive) I have to imagine that this guy signed some type of written agreement, for these folks to trash your property while you were out, any mention of that in the episode?

I think these 'surprise' remodel shows stink. I really despise that one where they steal a guys car (with help from family and friends), make him suffer through thinking something terrible has happened to it, and then hand it back all finished. I mean, talk about suffering, I couldn't even watch one episode. It's cool they get the car back finished, but even then, that's why I have a classic car - to do it myself. If someone else takes it and makes all the decisions, what's the fun in that?

That's sad that they did this to this AS, but that's hollywood for you. To them it's just a cheap prop. They can pick up plenty more where that came from, and they have no respect for people's attachment to the things they worked hard for.

I'll be surprised if the $4000 bidder goes through. But then to say you had something that has been on TV, some people would pay no matter how badly it was done, so you never know. I'll bet we see it on eBay again.
