Adding dinette

After a visit to Out Of Doors Mart for goodies and looking in a new Airstream I want a big change for our 87 sovereign. I would like to remove the sofa and little counter and beside the fridge and put in a dinette and long seat! Possible? Major work? Where would I find those items to purchase. Including pictures of what I would like it to look like. Thanks. Click image for larger version

Your best bet would be from salvage, but finding something that fits your needs may be a challenge. If you are handy you can build them to your own specifications. I'm good with the design and fabrication portion, but I leave the fabric and color selection to my BB and the cushions to an accomplished upholsterer.

I can't help you with this, but want to say that the only thing we missed from our first motor home.....was the dinette.

Go for it, and good luck!

Thank you!! We would love it for games. Also there is not enough seating! We are going to pull the carpet any way so that would be the time. Guest could sleep on the dinette table and be just as comfy I'd say.

I thought maybe some one could build the bench. I would live to find salvage that would fit or be modified!!

If you have a table saw, a Kreg jig, a pencil, and a tape measure, you can build a dinette. Seriously. I built one in our Trade Wind, just using the measurements off the old one (which was rapidly crumbling into dust).

Trust me on this - I'm waaaay not a woodworker, and if I can do it, you can do it.

Hubby is handy! We don't have an old one to go by tho. We would need to buy the support that let's it make a bed too. I'm stoked about extra seating!!

We removed the dinette and seating from our 2012 Flying Cloud front dinette model to install reclining chairs. We only need seating for two and wanted them to be very comfortable.

It's very similar to the one you pictured, Golden Ultraleather in virtually new condition. It's for sale, but located in Minnesota so that may be a problem. Contact me by private mail if interested, we'll be gone until this evening.

Just to butt in where it's none of my business, I'd check Greyhound bus freight to get something this big and heavy shipped that far. I understand their prices are great.

I built our dinette in an afternoon. Simple design, and you could easily stretch one side for a lounge.

I have one from a 1992 Airstream 31. Wine red in color. I am in central NC. Don't have any use for it now. It's in my attic.

Revisiting. We are still planning on taking out old sofa and would love to do the front dinette and sofa on the street side of our 87 sovereign. We love the one in the new Flying Cloud and that is exactly the look we are going for. I guess we could have someone build the frame for us, but getting the cushions to fit ready made might be an issue. We measure 88" side to side, 82" window to fridge wall, and 52" window to door opening..... Click image for larger version

Funny, many of us who own a newer Airstream with the dinette/side couch arrangement don't find it comfortable for relaxing at night or watching TV.

I do think for our purposes, That the dinette and the longer sofa would be to our advantage. Just finding one that will fit, or having it made and then finding cushions that will fit, no one who could do that kind of upholstery in our tiny town.

HoobieDoobie - a skilled re-upholstery/furniture repair shop can easily fabricate what you want. You are only 10 minutes from Cleghorn Upholstery at 554 Cleghorn Valley Road in Marion. Stop by and talk to Shirley Stamper (276- 646-3863) about what you want, check out her work, and whether it can do done affordably.
