What did you use for waterproofing under your “penny” tile bathroom floor?

Hi, not sure what you mean by waterproof so here is what we did:

I think she (this was the wife's project) just used normal tile adhesive to glue the pennies down. We then covered everything with two part pour-able clear bar epoxy. The floor is then sealed around the perimeter with clear silicone.

The glue, epoxy and silicone are all considered waterproof.

Kitchen cabinets are finally all done. I'm not going to be that elaborate with any of the other cabinet doors. It just takes too much time and I might never get done. The other doors will probably just be a 1/4" slot rabbit around the rail and stiles to hold in 1/4" birch ply panel. I cut wedges to flush mount the drawer fronts on the original plastic tub drawers. Finally ready to start the walnut counter top!

I forgot to take a photo of the hinges so here is a stock photo. They are invisible surface mounted spring hinges from Rockler. Many advantages:
1- Hidden, obviously.
2- Don't have to drill holes in cabinet doors like you do the European style.
3- They spring snap shut. Which I think should keep the doors closed during travel.
4- Allow for plenty of adjustments to get doors straight and plumb.

Cut, jointered, planed and cut again. Sometimes put through the jointer a second time to clean up the edges. Having all the right power tools makes all the difference. This is going to be the kitchen counter top and the walnut boards were anything but straight when I got them. You can see in the first picture how straight they are even before they are clamped together.

Got everything cut square and biscuit jointed up in less than 4 hours while helping the wife with her garage sale at the same time.

Here is the counter top in the trailer. Cut out sink and stove areas. Need to make end piece, thicken outer edge and router and it will be ready for oil and clear coat.

Wow. Particularly like the slick pattern match with the sink cover.

I love to pull similar tricks with trim moldings cut to ‘flow’ around angles and corners. Takes a lot of planning and careful cutting to do this without waste and matching grain at the same time!

Really great job!

Wow! Looks superb!

My dad used to get finishes like that, and I know how much work and skill it takes to get it looking like that...

Full disclosure: I really screwed up the poly clear gloss coat. I tried to get it all done in one weekend putting it on too thick, it ran, a big disaster. Luckily the wife took over and fixed my mess. She sanded out my mistakes, put on many thin coats, selectively used a heat gun.....basically worked magic to get it perfect looking. Thus the picture of her admiring our hard work.

Added distressed wood paneling to the bulkhead between the pantry and the counter-top. Just cut them to fit and glued with liquid nails.
