LCD TVs on the road

My husband and I just bought a 32 inch LCD TV for our Airstream. Only difficulty is, there isn't a place to mount the TV. Only a wooden box that we can contain it in (the TV sits on it when we're stationary). Is it possible to lay the LCD flat on our bed in transit (face up or face down, either under the covers or under the foam mattress topper), or should be keep it vertical on the stand in the wooden box, surrounded by, say, bubble wrap ro something protective?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.
We have a 21" LCD television that we store face down on the bed, on top of the comforter. It has ridden there many thousands of miles with no trouble.

On the Bed is not recommended. The rear bed moves around the most in the trailer. The couch up front is a better bet. Best yet, mount it. I have one TV that has been through two accidents mount to the wall.

I used to put the 23" LCD on the bed in the rear, face down. It has the mounting hardware for putting it up on the wall so it is heavier than one without and more top heavy when laying face down. Long story short, we went through some bad road repair one time that really bounced the trailer around some. Found the tv on the floor! Now I just put it there, wrapped in a comforter.
I'm a little hesitant on leaving it on the wall, being it is a swing out wall mount and I do not have it bolted through the wall. JMHO.

I have two on mounts that allow it to quickly hang on or take off the wall (bedroom wall/bolted to inside of closet and behind dinette on same wall as frig). I always remove, wrap in blankets face down on bed asurrounded by pillows, and they have never gone anywhere.

I used to keep mine screenside down on the bed surrounded by pillows. I found it on the floor one time too. Now I put it on the floor between the beds surrounded by pillows too, like Julia & Bob. I do have new Centramatics now & I'm quite sure it would stay on the bed, but I don't want to risk it!

We just up-graded to a 32" Aquas this season, thats exactly how we transport, face down on the curbside rear twin, wrapped in a microfiber blanket. The feet on the base set between the mattress and wall.

Never had a problem with it moving around while on the road, it's easy to bring inside if needed and during our sweet Bflo Winters..... LCD's will freeze.

I have a 22" Vizio that is on rotating arm. We can spin it around to the bedroom and watch in bed or on the Gaucho. During travel I store it in a bin , it barely fits under the bed and wrap in a towel.

Had put a 26" on the bed with pillows and found it on the floor once and that changed that for me.
I'm concerned about the theft side of it which is why it gets packed up and put away out of sight.

Welcome to the forums.
32" is a large TV. Maybe you could post a pic or two of your interior and the great minds here could offer advice on a permanent mounting location??? Mounted on a box seems like an invitation to trouble sooner or later.
When we are rolling, we wrap ours in a blanket and let it ride in the slide out drawer beneath the gaucho. It does seem best to keep fragile items toward the front of the trailer during transport--a lot less bounce.

I suggest using a microfiber towel against the screen if you wrap it in something as other fabric can scratch the LCD screen. Ours was factory mounted on the wall and stays there.

Check the info that comes with the TV about freezing. Our Samsung says, if I remember, -4˚ as the lower limit.

Perhaps the safest place is the tow vehicle. In an extended cab, the space behind the front seats probably is the least bouncy place since it's right between the axles and you can stow it there between the seats.

I wrapped our LCD in one of my Polartec fleece pullovers and laid it on the bed until I could reposition the wall mount to accommodate the larger sized TV set. It worked just fine. Here's something that some of you may be interested in that I saw at IKEA this weekend. It's lightweight, rather inexpensive, and made (mostly) out of aluminum, which would look good in any Airstream.

Hi Sky,

What you could do is have a straight mounting post made that would fit in the cabinet space bolted at the bottom and top. A Peerless swing arm mount would allow you to pull the TV out of the cabinet and swivel to the desired viewing location. I had a gooseneck version made to support my 32" LCD from the website listed below using the 4"x4" baseplate at both ends.

We store our 28in LCD on the front couch, covered and screen-side up and it has never moved. The rear bed room is the harshest riding area according to my observations and moveable items move forward, ie off the bed, if the brakes need to be set hard. The couch is also close to the credenza where we set it up to watch.

I agree, My philosophy is to store delicate things on teh lowest level to which they might otherwise find there own way! We have always carried tv's on the floor.

Ours is wall mounted with a swing arm to watch it from the side bed or from our recently completed front dinette. We have a bungee cord mounted to the wall behind the TV and pull it to the wall and wrap the bunge to it. This gives it a slight play (willow vs oak) and has travelled very well.

I mounted a 19" to the end of the streetside overhead cabinet facing the gaucho sofa. I used a 4 way tilting bracket that will extend around the corner and face the curbside (my wifes) bed. (she likes to watch tv at night, I don't need it to fall asleep) Also it will extend toward the door so sitting outside under the awning I can watch the game (Roll Tide!) I used a strap, riveted to the ceiling behind the tv that holds up the tv and also keeps it from extending while traveling. I notoced the new AS trailers have a strap also. Works for me. I bought my tv from target, 19" was the lightest one on the shelf and the controls are on the left side looking at the screen. Dvd player is in the the overhead above the sofa. 8 hr road trip, all is well.
