Hanging clothes in closet
We are happily preparing for our first trip in our brand new 25FB FC and are wondering about hanging things in the wardrobe and closet. Do we need to buy the Lynx hangers that clip over the racks so that clothes don't fall off during travel? Other solutions people have used? Thanks.

I personally have never had a problem with clothes falling off of hangers or hangers falling off of bar. DW bought hangers with grippy covering but I don't like them (too hard to get clothes on and off) so I just use typical plastic hangers. Grippy ones might be better for delicate women's blouses, etc.

I just use regular hangars too and have never had a problem.

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.
As to your question regarding clothes on hangers coming off the rod in the wardrobes while underway.
We have logged over 140,000 miles undeway in our Airstreams over ten years. We have never had a single hanger come off the rod. We have always used plain wire hangers.

These are what works for me. All other hangers I have used fall off.

My clothes do fall off!
We must drive on rougher roads that the rest of the responders to this post. Our clothes always fall off (didn't matter if it was the 28 or 30 foot Airstream). A friend of ours came up with a novel, and cheap, solution.
Get a small beach ball from the dollar store and inflate it partially. Shove the beach ball between the clothes rod and the top of the closet. Since using this method no clothes have ever fallen off. Thanks Corla!

I use those this space saving hangers with the black velor stuff on them nothing ever falls off. You can get them at Big Lots or Walmart

Our Avion closets have wooden clothes rods. Above that is a "clamp" that is a spring-hinged piece of wood that has a weatherstripping-like material running the length of that piece of wood. That edge contacts the hanger loop when the "clamp" is placed down in "travel" mode.
Maybe something like that idea could be fashioned for the Airstream to match it's interior?? If you'd like, I can get a picture of what ours looks like.

Or, do as we have for years ... use a heat gun to remold the hook at the top of your plastic hangars (we prefer the HD style) so that the hook opening is just a bit smaller than the diameter of the clothes rod. Then your plastic hangars will "snap" on and stay put!

We've never had clothes fall off the hangers. The closet bar is really sturdy. We leave the clothes hanging in the closet while traveling. No problem.
Our previous sob trailer had a really flimsy closet bar, so we were always afraid to travel with clothes hanging in the closet. We always took the clothes out and laid them across the bed. No need to do that in the Airstream.

We got a thick piece of foam which we wedged between the top shelf and the rung. Nothing ever fell off. When we were leaving anywhere we just put the foam back in. Very easy to store and easy to replace when needed. This method lasted thru 43 years of camping.

This sounds crazy, but years ago someone told us to put the hangers on backwards. Ever since no hanger has popped off the rod. Have no idea why that matters but it has worked for us.

Funny...Moosetags has never had a hanger fall off in 140,000 miles, whereas AWCHIEF in the very next post had all but one brand fall off over the years. And based on their past posts, I respect both.  jon

Could it be that Moosetags never had anything hanging on them whereas we all know how neat an AF Chief is, everything is on a hanger.

Our Award had a hinged piece of 1x2 wood that rotated down over the hanger rod to stop the hangers from jumping off. Worked quite well as whenever we left it rotated up we lost clothes hangers.
Interestingly we have never had hangers jump off in our AS's. I sometimes curse the corrugated cover on the hangar rod since I can't easily push clothes over to one side while hanging fresh clothes

I thought the bumpy/ridged/textured sleeve over the bar was to help keep the clothes hangers from jumping off.

We use plastic hangers, nothing ever falls off , I only drive at 63 mph, most of my clothes are in the closet next to the bed, mostly T- shirts, because I'm fat.

The Other Brand has a Locking Bar
Paul&Gina beat me to it....my Avion has a spring loaded wooded bar that comes down and locks the hangers onto the big diameter wooden rod. So the hangers won't come off the rod.
I have had a few clothes come off the hangers, but it was mainly heavy things like coats that I hadn't zipped up and had gone down a bumpy road.
It really is a good design they have...it'd be easy to copy.
