My clothes jumped off the rod all the time until I bought strips of Velcro and wrapped it around the first 10 hangers, then the next 10, etc.

Really?
This sounds like a solution waiting for a problem. I have never had anything jump off the rack. If I did I would look into problems with running gear. Tires out of balance? Problems with shocks? Misaligned axles? Driving way too fast? Traveling on really bad roads?
I can't claim the mileage that Mr. Moose has but I have been over 35K now and have never, never, never had a hangar jump off the rod. Something funny here.

After you have a problem with the hangers falling off, try turning the head of your hangers in the other direction so the open side is facing you. The curved wall of your Airstream will help hold the hangers on the closet pole.

Hangars in Airstream Closets
Haven't ever had clothes fall off during travel. We use a large clear surgical plastic (slit along the back to pop over the rod) (Home Depot/Lowes). Hangars can be accessed easily and can slide back and forth. I tend to use whatever type of hangar (metal hangars) that allows the most in the smallest area. I like the 4-5 pants-on-hangars. I also like to use hangars I get when buying clothes. Sometimes the hanging "shoe/purse" works in certain closets, depending on where you have more space.
In my experience, I've tried several options before choosing the best way for our Airstream.
Hope this gives you some helpful thoughts.

I guess all trailers don't have this bumpy cover on the bar:
We have never had clothes fall off. We don't hang them backwards. We use a random hodge-podge of hangers- plastic ones bought from Walmart, plastic or wooden ones that come with clothes when you buy them, and metal ones from the cleaners.
Maybe it's the fact there are so many clothes there that keeps them from falling off the bar?
Maybe that plastic bumpy surface helps?

Maybe the reason our clothes stay on the bar is because they are "wedged in and can't go anywhere?

Never lost a hanger. We also have a little painted tin flower pot (on a rubber mat) with plastic flowers that travels on the counter. I think the only time I've had to pick it up off the floor is when we drive on HWY 30 to Astoria OR. That road is like a rollercoaster.

Pack in enough clothes in the closet, and compression will keep everything In place!

Some of us drive either on horrible roads or way too fast, but I have had clothes fall off all the time until I cut a one inch thick piece of "kayak foam" the closed cell foam used for flotation, and wedge these between the curtain rod and shelf once hangers are in place. This reduces problems to nearly zero, but apparently some of the roads still have bumps enough to even dislodge these.
But, I am actually dropping my trailer tire pressures to 60 psi (16 inch LT tires) which according to Firestone is about correct for my 7300 lbs on four wheels, when hitched to TV.
Maybe tire pressures have more of an influence than I had realized.

I purchased some stainless hangers that have a narrower hook at the end that goes on the closet pole. They are a little more effort to take down, but clothes do not fall off of them. However, with that said, we also have some cheapie plastic hangers and only rarely do things fall off.... only if we are going over very bumpy roads like the San Diego freeway!

I slit a piece of foam pipe insulation and put it over the bar, then secured with duct tape. No worries.
