We researched for a couple of years, pretty much starting with a blank sheet of paper and going from there. Asked lots of questions, the answers to which usually led us to more questions. Eventually we got things figured out.
We started out taking things with us that we decided later we didn't need. Of course, we sold some things that we later DID need. Overall, the past five years have gone very quickly. We've been reducing the stuff as we go, but I fear that the weight of what goes away just comes back around my middle, so that we aren't really any lighter on the road.
Watch the weight. You will learn how to load to keep things balanced, and you will be tempted to fill the truck bed with all sorts of stuff. ALL of it adds up, and it can be very easy to overload the rear axle. If you don't already have a truck, don't believe the sales people who tell you an F250 or 2500 can tow anything. Yes, they may be able to drag it down the road a bit, but then Wally Byam towed an Airstream with a bicycle, and Oldsmobile advertised their new Toronado by removing the rear wheels and towing an Airstream. Possible? Yes. Safe? NO.
