Winterizing tip, or maybe not?

I listen to a home improvement show on the weekends out of 55KRC in Cincinnati. Gary Sullivan, if you're interested.

Recently he was talking about winterizing the home for folks who spend an extended time away during the colder months headed to warmer climates. One of his tips was to add a few ounces of mineral oil to the "P-traps" and toilet bowls. The mineral oil floats on top of the liquids below and will keep said liquids from evaporating, and thus keeping sewer gases from creeping up into the house.

Just curious if any of you have tried this in the Airstream as part of your winterizing exercise. One thing not mentioned on the show was the possibility of the M.O. freezing. I have no idea what the freezing point of M.O. might be.

Any experience out there?

Thumbs up

J & S...

Kind'a, maybe, somewhat, not quite, but close...... you be the judge?

After drying out the flapper seal when all the A-freeze seeped out,(could'a been the cheep WallyMart stuff that did it).
I started with a couple tbl spoons of olive oil in the bowl, but switched to Crisco veggie oil several years ago. No seeps or leeks and no chance of the A-freeze alcohol damaging the seal.

So when is this..."old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?
